Dakota State (S.D.) stays undefeated in Frontier Conference play and at home this season

MADISON, S.D. – No. 4 ranked Dakota State (S.D.) used a decisive second half surge to secure a 70–59 Frontier Conference victory over Valley City State (N.D.) Saturday evening at the DSU Fieldhouse. The Trojans improve to 10–1 overall and 5–0 in Frontier play, while VCSU drops to 5–4 (2–3 Frontier).

Dakota State completed their season-high six-game home stand undefeated, improving their home record to 7-0 this season (1-0 record at the Madison High School).  The Trojans also earned their double-digit wins for the seventh consecutive season.

DSU earned their seventh straight victory.
 

First Quarter Highlights
Dakota State and Valley City State traded early leads, combining for six lead changes and two ties in the opening period.
  • Bria Wasmund buried three first-quarter triples, sparking DSU to 21 points.
  • VCSU matched with 19, led by Ellie Braaten, who hit two threes and scored six early points.
    DSU held a 21–19 lead after one.

Second Quarter Highlights
Both teams cooled offensively, combining for 25 total points.
  • Teel added six more in the period, continuing to dominate the paint.
  • Teel and Wasmund each scored 12 points in the first half.
VCSU led 33-32 by halftime. 

Third Quarter Highlights
Dakota State built momentum behind its rebounding and physicality.
  • Teel scored seven in the third and continued to control the glass.
  • Mackenzi Simmons knocked down two threes in a quick burst to extend the lead.
DSU outscored VCSU 19–12 in the frame to enter the fourth ahead 51–45.

Fourth Quarter Highlights
The Vikings cut into the lead multiple times behind Braaten's sixth three of the night, but DSU's frontcourt put the game away.
  • Teel added eight more points in the fourth period.
  • Cassidy Shute delivered six fourth-quarter points, including key free throws (6-of-8 FT overall).
    DSU won the quarter 19–14 to seal the 11-point win.
