MADISON, S.D. – Mount Marty (S.D.) erased a 2-1 deficit after producing a three-run production in the top sixth inning Tuesday afternoon, edging out Dakota State (S.D.) 4-2 in the final non-conference contest of the season at Thue Field.

DSU fell to 4-30 overall record.  Mount Marty improved to 19-16 overall record.

The Trojans return to North Star Athletic Association action Friday and Saturday, visiting Mayville State (N.D.) in a four-game series.  The first doubleheader takes place Friday afternoon at 1 p.m., followed by another doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m.  The four-game series take place at Paul Karlstad Field in Portland, N.D.

Mount Marty (S.D.) 4, Dakota State (S.D.) 2 – FINAL

Abby Johnson kicked off the game by smashing a lead-off home run in the top first inning, earning a 1-0 lead for the Lancers.

Dakota State was unable to answer in the bottom half of the first inning, despite leaving a runner on third base.  Hannah McFarland led off with a walk and swiped to second base.  She advanced to third base after Ally Morrissey's ground out and was unable to score.

The Trojans knotted the game 1-1 in the bottom third as Quincy Hartley blasted a lead-off home run.  It was her second home run this season.

DSU continued their offense attack in the bottom third as Julia Maldonado and McFarland hit back-to-back singles.  Both Maldonado and McFarland advanced one base after Morrissey's ground out.

Gabrielle Ortega-Alves hir an RBI sacrifice fly to score Maldonado as the Trojans take a 2-1 lead in the bottom third.

The Lancers snapped their scoring drought after plating three runs in the top sixth, sparked by Kayleen Jacinto's lead-off single.  She advanced to second base after Janeah Castro's sacrifice bunt.  Regan Garry, pinch hitter for Megan Toplovich, drilled a double and advanced Jacinto to third base.

After a strike out looking for the second out of the top sixth inning, MMU produced back-to-back scoring plays.  Alyssa Sosky hit a 2-RBI single to score Jacinto and Garry to regain their lead to 3-2.

Mount Marty extended their lead to 4-2 as Makayla Hudson hit an RBI single to score Sosky in the top sixth.

Dakota State was unable to come back in the final inning, leaving a runner on second base when the game ended.

The Lancers tallied eight hits in the game compared to the Trojans five hits.

Michelle Evdos went 2-for-3 at the plate with two singles for DSU.  Hartley had a home run and an RBI.  Maldonado and McFarland each added a single.  Maldonado had two walks.  McFarland recorded a walk and swiped two bases.  She extended the DSU all-time school record of 59 stolen bases.  Ortega-Alves collected an RBI. 

Johnson led MMU with a home run, double, and an RBI.  Garry added a double.  Sosky had a single and two RBIs.  Hudson earned a single and an RBI.  Ella Ray, Jacinto, and Castro each collected a hit.  Castro swiped one base.

Analicia Burgos took the defeat in the pitching circle for Dakota State after tossing 5 1/3 innings.  She allowed three runs on five hits and recorded three strikeouts.  Maycee Bricker worked 1 2/3 innings in relief, giving u a run on three hits.

Makayla Graunke started the game for Mount Marty.  She pitched three innings and yielded two runs on three hits. She registered four strikeouts.  Jacey Hayen (W, 4-2) earned the victory after tossing three scoreless innings in relief, limiting the Trojans to two hits.  McKenzie Gray (S, 1) picked up the save after pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
