Steins and Olson compete on the first day of NSAA outdoor heptathlon

NSAA women's heptathlon continues Wednesday with three more events in Valley City, N.D.

VALLEY CITY, N.D. Amelie Steins and Casey Olson of Dakota State (S.D.) competed on the first day of the 2025 North Star Athletic Association Women's Outdoor Track & Field Multi-Events Championships Tuesday afternoon at Shelly Ellig Field at Lokken Stadium.  Valley City State (N.D.) is this year's host for the conference multi-events championships.

Steins and Olson produced two personal records in two different events for the Trojans.  They competed in four different events of the women's heptathlon.

Steins kicked off the day with 805 points after recording a time of 15.28 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles.  Olson followed up with a career best time of 17.64 seconds for 526 points in the hurdles.

Steins collected 632 points after clearing the high jump of 1.51 meters mark (4 feet, 11.5 inches), tying the top high jump mark with Dickinson State's (N.D.) Kaitlyn McColly.  Olson earned 566 points after clearing the height of 1.45 meters (4 feet, 9 inches).

The third event of the heptathlon was the shot put where both DSU athletes produced personal record marks.  Olson led the Trojans with 11.13 meters toss (36 feet, 6.25 inches) for 604 points.  Steins posted a mark of 10.51 meters (34 feet, 5.75 inches) for 563 points.

The final heptathlon event on the first day was the 200-meter dash, where Steins recorded a personal best time of 26.53 seconds for 751 points.  Olson finished the race with a time of 29.28 seconds for 534 points.

McColly of DiSU currently leads the NSAA women's heptathlon with 2,835 points.  Steins is second with 2,751 points, followed by Emma Muggli of Valley City State third with 2,561 points.  Olson is fourth in the standings with 2,230 points.

The heptathlon concludes Wednesday with three events, starting with the long jump at 11 a.m. followed by javelin and the 800-meter dash.
