DES MOINES, Iowa – Two Dakota State (S.D.) women's relay teams established a new school record time Friday at the 115
th annual running of the Drake Relays at Bulldog Stadium. All collegiate levels from NCAA Division I to NAIA schools competed in the prestigious annual event.
The Trojans kicked off the morning session with the 4 x 100-meter relay. The relay team of
Amelie Steins,
Bridget Bartling,
Molli Thornton, and
RayLee Wallis clocked a time of 48.81 seconds to place 21
st in the field.
They broke an 18-year-old school record held by Bobbi Jo Dykstra, Jayna Goodroad, Laura Tewes, and Nikki Duffy with a time of 48.87 seconds set in 2007.
Saddie Palmquist competed in the 800-meter run at Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa, Friday afternoon. She clocked a time of 2 minutes, 34.34 seconds in the race.
The action continued Friday afternoon in the 4 x 400-meter relay at Drake Relays. The team of Steins,
Anna Schneider, Thornton, and Wallis produced a new school record time of 3 minutes, 59.24 seconds.
The previous school record was set in 2021 by Jennifer Giles, Shaylee DeBeer, Jessica Giles, and Kezley Yeager with a time of 4 minutes, 1.39 seconds.
DSU concluded Friday's session in the 4 x 200-meter relay. The relay team of
Averie Marshall,
Ella Carstensen,
Bethany Lawson, and Bartling finished with a time of 1 minute, 50.11 seconds.
Dakota State concludes their three-day Drake Relays action on Saturday, starting at 9:10 a.m. with the distance medley relay (
Kierra Miller, Carstensen, Schneider, and
Lindsey Roth), followed by javelin (
Casey Olson) at 10:15 a.m., and the hammer throw (
Oliviyah Thornton) at 1:45 p.m.
