NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. – The Dakota State (S.D.) University volleyball team capped off a strong opening weekend with another sweep, this time taking down Bethany (Kan.) in three straight sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-17) at the CNOS Fieldhouse. The Trojans moved to
4-0 overall, while the Swedes dropped to
0-4.
It was the fifth straight year that Dakota State played in the Siouxland Tournament held at CNOS Fieldhouse, the first time that the Trojans finished the same tournament undefeated. In addition, it was the first time in head coach
Amy Veenhof coaching era that DSU started the season with a 4-0 record.
Set 1 Highlights
The Trojans jumped out quickly behind
Maddi Langerock's setting and strong swings from
Tristyn Maras and
Halle Bruflat. DSU hit .382 as a team and rolled to a 25-15 win.
Set 2 Highlights
Bethany battled early, but Dakota State's balanced offense proved too much.
Sophie Tuttle tallied multiple kills and digs, while
Maras and
Macey Wathen added timely points. DSU closed it out 25-15.
Set 3 Highlights
Bethany made one final push, keeping the score close with improved defense. However, the Trojans' depth took over, with
Bruflat, Tuttle, and Maras finishing off rallies to secure the sweep, 25-17.

Weekend Wrap
Dakota State opened the season with back-to-back sweeps on two consecutive days, winning 12 straight sets. The Trojans take a week off before returning to action on Tuesday, Sept. 2 as they host rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) at DSU Fieldhouse. The junior varsity match starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 7 p.m. in Madison, S.D.
