MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State used a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive presence to earn a straight-set sweep of Carroll (Mont.) in Frontier Conference volleyball play Friday late afternoon at DSU Fieldhouse. The victory lifted the Trojans to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in conference action, while the Saints dropped to 7-5 and 2-2.
DSU continues their four-match home stand on Saturday afternoon versus Rocky Mountain (Mont.). The match is set for 2 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse. Fans are encouraged to wear purple to the match to help raise suicide prevention awareness.
CC heads to BU Fieldhouse to visit No. 3 ranked Bellevue (Neb.) on the same day.
Set One Highlights
The opening set was a back-and-forth battle. Carroll led 22-16 late, but the Trojans mounted a huge rally sparked by kills from
Sophie Tuttle and
Tristyn Maras. Tuttle's late swings and a clutch ace from
Sydney Wathen tied the frame, and
Halle Bruflat closed it out at 27-25 with a kill off a feed from setter
Maddi Langerock.
Set Two Highlights
DSU carried its momentum into the second set, breaking away early with a 9-1 run. The Trojans' offense was crisp, hitting .208 as a team, while the Saints stumbled with eight attack errors and a .000 percentage. Tuttle and Maras combined for multiple kills, while
Reagan VanRooyan added a service ace to help DSU roll 25-12.
Set Three Highlights
DSU's efficiency peaked in the final frame, swinging .429 with just three errors. Maras and Bruflat powered kills from both pins, while Tuttle added the finishing touches with her 20th kill. The Trojans pulled away midway through the set and closed the match with a 25-16 decision.

Carroll was led by McKaila Balcom with 7 kills, while libero Molly O'Connor tallied 15 digs.
