MADISON, S.D. – The Dakota State University Trojan women's volleyball (4-0 overall record, 0-0 Frontier Conference record, receiving votes in the NAIA Women's Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 national poll) returns to action with three matches this week, including the home opener versus rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) (5-4 overall record, receiving votes in the national poll).
The Trojans host the Tigers in a junior varsity and varsity doubleheader, starting at 5 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse in Madison, S.D.
Dakota State kicked off their 2025 season by going undefeated in the Siouxland Invitational tournament in North Sioux City, Iowa, without losing a set. The Trojans swept a pair of Heart of America Athletic Conference Missouri Valley and William Penn (Iowa) on Aug. 22. DSU followed up with a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Doane (Neb.) and Bethany (Kan.) on Aug. 23.
This is the second straight year that Dakota State hosts Dakota Wesleyan in the home opener, with both teams earning receiving votes (RV) recognition in the NAIA Women's Volleyball Coaches' Preseason Poll.
The Trojans swept the season series with the Tigers last season, both meetings by the scores of 3-1 in Madison (Aug. 24, 2024) and in Mitchell (Sept. 10, 2024).
Dakota State begins their new conference era this weekend, kicking off their 22-match conference schedule with back-to-back matches in North Dakota. The Trojans visit Dickinson State (N.D.) (4-1 overall record, 0-0 Frontier) on Friday evening at Scott Gymnasium (1104 2
nd Street W) in Dickinson, N.D., with the first serve set for 7 p.m. (Central Time)/6 p.m. (Mountain Time).
Dakota State had won five straight meetings with Dickinson State and nine times in the last 10 meetings.
DSU then travels to Bismarck, N.D., to take on new NAIA and Frontier Conference member Bismarck State (N.D.). The match is set for 2 p.m. at BSC Armory (1601 Edwards Ave.). Saturday's match will be the first ever meeting for both teams.
Maddi Langerock moved past Katie Bassett (2,025 assists) for the seventh all-time assists in DSU volleyball program history. Langerock accumulated 2,075 assists prior to this week's matches.
Sydney Wathen was listed in the Trojan volleyball single-match school record after their 3-0 season opening victory over Missouri Valley. She posted eight service aces, which is the second most single match aces in the record book. She was two service aces shy of tying the school record holder by Maddi Polzin with ten service aces versus Bethel (Kan.) on Sept. 10, 2021.
