BROOKINGS, S.D. – Two new Dakota State women's indoor track & field school records were set in the regular season finale Saturday on the second day of the NCAA Division I meet, South Dakota State Indoor Track Classic at Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. Numerous personal records and season best marks were also posted during the meet, which features athletes from all collegiate levels from NCAA Division I to NAIA schools.
Oliviyah Thornton highlighted the Trojans with a pair of throwing school records. In what a potential Frontier Conference showdown between the top two throwers next weekend, Kori Nagel and Thornton tied for the weight throw title with the same mark of 18.31 meters toss (60 feet, 1 inch). Thornton's mark is also the third best in the NAIA after Saturday's meets.
Bella Maxwell threw her season best 16.02 meters (52 feet, 6.75 inches) to place seventh in the weight throw for DSU.
Alivia Bickett added 14.68 meters toss (48 feet, 2 inches), followed by
Kiana Mounga with 14.21 meters (46 feet, 7.5 inches).
Lilly Young recorded 13.52 meters toss (44 feet, 4.25 inches).
Thornton also placed second behind Nagel in the shot put, producing a new school record of 14.38 meters (47 feet, 2.25 inches). Her mark is also the NAIA 'A' automatic qualifying mark and currently ranks third in the NAIA. Maxwell added 12.60 meters (41 feet, 4.25 inches), Bickett with 10.68 meters (35 feet, .5 inches),
Hadley Hollenbeck with 10.41 meters (34 feet, 2 inches), and
Emily Dvorak with 9.43 meters (30 feet, 11.25 inches).
Molli Thornton clocked a season best time of 8.02 seconds in the 60-meter dash for the Trojans.
Averie Marshall added 8.27 seconds, followed by
Bridget Bartling with 8.29 seconds.
RayLee Wallis led DSU with a time of 25.83 seconds in the 200-meter dash. M. Thornton added a season best time of 26.04 seconds, followed by
Bethany Lawson with her season best time of 27.20 seconds.
Taneaja John added a personal record time of 27.98 seconds, and Marshall added 28.22 seconds.
Alyssa Koffler clocked a time of 30.05 seconds in the race.
Wallis registered a season best time of 58.65 seconds in the 400-meter dash for Dakota State.
Anna Schneider added a personal record time of 1:00.65. Lawson registered a season best time of 1:04.32.
John posted a time of 9.53 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, followed by Koffler with a personal record 10.22 seconds.
Valerija Curikova clocked a career best time of 2 minutes, 25.49 seconds in the 800-meter run for DSU.
Brooke Beaucaire also added a personal record time of 2:30.69.
Lindsey Roth produced a season best time of 3:06.96 to place tenth in the 1000-meter run.
Dakota State returns to Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex next weekend for the inaugural Frontier Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The first events are set for 5 p.m. next Saturday and continue next Sunday at 11 a.m. in Brookings.
