BROOKINGS, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) was edged by Dickinson State (N.D.) by two points for the inaugural Frontier Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field conference title Sunday at Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. The Trojans held the lead after the first day before the Blue Hawks overtook it in Sunday's session.
Dickinson State scored 144 points in the two-day conference meet, followed by Dakota State second with 142 points. Montana Tech was third with 128 points, Bismarck State (N.D.) fourth with 102 points, and Carroll (Mont.) fifth with 60 points. Rocky Mountain (Mont.) earned sixth place with 48 points, Bellevue (Neb.) seventh with 31 points, Valley City State (N.D.) eighth with 23 points, and MSU-Northern ninth with two points.
Adow Thyab kicked off the Trojans with a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing a personal record 1.61 meters (5 feet, 3.25 inches).
Casey Olson also cleared a career best 1.56 meters (5 feet, 1.25 inches) to place seventh.
Alyssa Koffler was tenth with 1.41 meters (4 feet, 7.5 inches).
Oliviyah Thornton placed third in the shot put, tossing 14.10 meters (46 feet, 3.25 inches) for Dakota State. Olson was eighth with 12.17 meters toss (39 feet, 11.25 inches).
Hadley Hollenbeck registered 11.47 meters mark (37 feet, 7.75 inches).
DSU concluded the field events with the triple jump, led by
Ella Carstensen with a personal record 10.92 meters (35 feet, 10 inches, placing sixth.
Molli Thornton recorded 10.07 meters (33 feet, .5 inches) and
Daynica Witzel with a personal record 9.92 meters mark (32 feet, 6.5 inches).
Lindsey Roth started Sunday's running events with a season best time of 5 minutes, 18.92 seconds to place fourth in the 1-mile run.
Valerija Curikova was sixth with a season best time of 5:21.58, followed by
Brooke Beaucaire seventh in 5:31.67.
Amelie Steins clocked a time of 9.01 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles final, placing third for the Trojans. She followed up with a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter dash in 7.98 seconds.
RayLee Wallis led the Trojans with a third-place finish in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:38.71, followed by
Anna Schneider with a season best time of 1:39.32 for a fourth-place finish.
Roth was sixth in the 800-meter run with a season best time of 2:23.45, followed by Schneider seventh in 2:26.20, Curikova eighth in 2:26.20, and Beaucaire tenth in 2:37.79.
Steins led the Trojans with a season best 26.02 seconds in the 200-meter dash, followed by Wallis fifth in 26.08 seconds (26.071), and M. Thornton sixth in 26.08 seconds (26.078).
Bethany Lawson added a time of 27.31 seconds.
Curikova earned a runner-up finish in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10 minutes, 25.23 seconds. Beaucaire finished the race in 10:57.43, followed by Roth with a personal record 10:58.21, and
Madelyn Sylva with a personal record 10:58.83.
Dakota State closed the conference meet with a second-place finish in the 4 x 400-meter relay, falling .30 seconds short for first place by Bismarck State. The members of Steins, Schneider, M. Thornton, and Wallis finished with a time of 3 minutes, 58.61 seconds.
The NAIA national office will announce the list of national qualifiers later this week. The NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships will be held in Gainesville, Fla., on March 5-7.
