Dakota State balloons winning streak to four games, rolls past Hornets

Trojans poured in seven runs in opening inning, rolled to 11-3 win in five innings over Harris-Stowe State (Mo.)

BRANSON, Mo. – Dakota State (S.D.) erupted for seven runs in the opening inning and never looked back, cruising to an 11–3 five-innings victory over Harris-Stowe (Mo.) Tuesday afternoon in Stars & Stripes Spring Break Classic.  The Trojans remained undefeated in the tournament with four straight wins, the first time since the 2022-23 season that DSU had won four consecutive contests.

The Trojans racked up 11 hits and 11 RBIs while using a two-pitcher combination to hold Harris-Stowe to four hits in the five-inning contest.

Dakota State improved to 6-8 overall record, while Harris-Stowe State fell to 1-5 overall record.
 
How it happened

Dakota State wasted no time setting the tone in the top of the first inning. Hannah McFarland sparked the rally with a double before the Trojans loaded the bases. Alexia Hayden delivered the biggest blow of the inning with a two-run single, and DSU capitalized on defensive miscues to keep the rally going.

Later in the inning, Quincy Hartley added an RBI single, and Ally Morrissey followed with an RBI hit through the left side as the Trojans exploded for seven runs on five hits to take a commanding 7-0 lead.

Dakota State continued to add to the margin in the second inning when McFarland drove in two runs, extending the advantage to 9-0.

The Hornets broke through in the third inning with two runs and added another in the fourth, highlighted by an RBI from Karmen Daniels and a sacrifice from A'Kiayah Scales.

The Trojans answered again in the third with a three-run frame, including a two-run single by Hartley, pushing the score to 11-2 before the Hornets plated their final run in the fourth.

Dakota State's pitching staff closed out the game from there to secure the eight-run victory.
