BRANSON, Mo. – Doane (Neb.) erupted for nine hits and used a pair of home runs to power past Dakota State (S.D.) 10–1 in the Stars and Stripes Spring Break softball tournament at Tanger Field. The Trojans led 1-0 after the first inning, but the Tigers scored 10 straight runs to earn a season series sweep.
Dakota State fell to 6-10 overall record on the season. Doane improved to 11-10 overall record.
How it happened
Dakota State struck first in the opening inning.
Alexia Hayden delivered a run-scoring hit that plated the Trojans' lone run (
Emmalynn Rabe, who hit a single with two outs and advanced to second base after a passed ball) and gave DSU an early 1–0 lead.
Doane responded quickly in the second inning, scoring three runs to take a 3–1 advantage. The Tigers added to the lead with two runs in the fourth before breaking the game open with five runs in the fifth inning.
Power played a major role in the Tigers' offensive surge. Bri True and Addison Parsons each launched home runs for Doane, combining for four RBIs. The Tigers also applied pressure on the basepaths with multiple stolen bases and timely extra-base hits.
Dakota State collected six hits in the game but was unable to generate additional scoring opportunities after the first inning.
In the circle, Trinity Robinson earned the win for Doane, tossing a complete five-inning effort while allowing one run on six hits.
