HELENA, Mont. – The Frontier Conference announces Dakota State University student-athlete,
Bonnard Bosler, as the football recipient of the inaugural Grit Award, sponsored by the Montana Army National Guard. The award recognizes one student-athlete per sport, who embodies extraordinary perseverance, mental toughness, and integrity both on and off the field, aligning with the National Guard values of resilience, service, discipline, and teamwork.
Bosler, a sophomore defensive end and business administration major from Sioux Falls, S.D., exemplifies these traits through his remarkable resilience in the face of significant athletic challenges. Despite suffering two season-ending ACL tears in consecutive years, Bosler has remained a steadfast and committed member of the Dakota State football program. In one instance, demonstrating exceptional toughness, he continued to compete for a full week unknowingly on a torn ACL.
"Despite suffering two season-ending injuries... he will never quit," said
Josh Anderson, Dakota State University head football coach. "He has never missed any event, meeting, practice, or game even despite his injuries. Always laughing, smiling, and encouraging. Bo is a tremendous example of team first".
Bosler's impact extends far beyond the football field:
- Academic Excellence: He maintains a 3.9 GPA while balancing the demands of rehabilitation and athletic responsibilities.
- Campus Leadership: He serves as a Residential Assistant, a role requiring maturity and consistent availability to others.
- Community Involvement: He is actively involved in FCA and team Bible study, reflecting his commitment to personal growth and service.
- Peer Mentorship: Even while sidelined, Bosler serves as a mentor to younger players, offering guidance rooted in his own experiences.
The Grit Award embodies the Montana Army National Guard values of resilience, service, discipline, and teamwork. Bosler's story of perseverance and quiet leadership aligns perfectly with these core values, representing Dakota State University with distinction.
