DSU splits Frontier softball doubleheader at Carroll (Mont.), earns 10th win of the season

Trojans hold off Saints 3-2 in series opener; CC earns split with 3-0 game two win over DSU

HELENA, Mont. – Dakota State (S.D.) earned a split in its Frontier Conference softball doubleheader against Carroll (Mont.) on Friday afternoon at Nelson Stadium. The Trojans took four-game series opener 3-2 for the 10th win of the season before the Saints responded with a 3-0 victory in the nightcap.

It was the first meeting between both teams.  Dakota State is 10-24 overall record and 4-12 record in the league.  Carroll is 12-12 overall record and 7-7 record in the Frontier Conference contests.

The Trojans earned their first true road win this season. 

Game 1: Dakota State (S.D.) 3, Carroll (Mont.) 2 – FINAL

Dakota State used timely hitting and a complete-game effort in the circle to edge Carroll 3-2 in the opener.

The Trojans struck first in the second inning, capitalizing on a Carroll error as Alexia Hayden came around to score for a 1-0 lead. DSU added to its advantage in the fifth inning when Gabrielle Ortega-Alves delivered an RBI single to plate Brenley Goebel, making it 2-0.

Dakota State extended the lead to 3-0 in the sixth inning as Alexis Resseguie drove in Ally Morrissey with a single.

Carroll mounted a late push, scoring once in the sixth and again in the seventh on an RBI double, but the Trojans held on to secure the win.

Maycee Bricker tossed a complete game for DSU, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three to earn the victory.

Carroll responded in game two behind a strong pitching performance and steady offensive production to shut out Dakota State 3-0.

The Saints broke through in the second inning on a sacrifice fly, then added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to build a 3-0 advantage.

Dakota State was limited offensively, collecting just two hits in the contest and unable to push a run across.

Grace Kitterman took the loss for the Trojans, allowing three runs on seven hits over six innings.
