Dakota State drops softball doubleheader at Dickinson State (N.D.)

Trojans return home Friday and Saturday for final home contests of the season at Thue Field

DICKINSON, N.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) softball was swept in the Frontier Conference softball doubleheader by the conference's leader Dickinson State (N.D.) on Monday at Bravera Field at Sanford Sports Complex, falling 8-0 (5 innings) in Game 1 and 5-0 in Game 2.  The Blue Hawks used timely hitting and strong pitching in both contests, limiting the Trojans to nine total hits across the twin bill.

Dakota State fell to 13-31 overall record and 5-19 record in the league.  Dickinson State extended their winning streak to 16 games, raising their overall record to 32-12 and 20-4 record in the conference.
 

Game 1: Dickinson State 8, Dakota State 0 – FINAL/5 innings

Dickinson State broke open a tight game with a four-run fourth inning and never looked back, earning the run-rule victory.

The Blue Hawks scored in four of the five innings, highlighted by a four-run fourth inning fueled by extra-base hits and Dakota State defensive miscues.
  • Brooke Lijewski led Dickinson State with 2 hits and 3 RBI
  • Celina Wilharm added a two-RBI triple
  • Viennah Meyer and Allyson Farrington each contributed RBI doubles
Dakota State was limited to just three hits, with Emmalynn Rabe, Ally Morrissey (double), and Lara Dolezal accounting for the offense.

Dickinson State completed the sweep behind another dominant pitching performance and a balanced offensive effort.

The Blue Hawks scored early and added insurance runs in the middle innings, including:

  • A solo home run by Brooke Lijewski in the fourth
  • A two-run fifth inning aided by walks with the bases loaded

Dakota State plays their final home regular season contests Friday and Saturday as they host Bismarck State (N.D.) in the Frontier Conference four-game series at Thue Field.  Friday's doubleheader, Paws at the Park, is set to start at 2 p.m.

Saturday's doubleheader beings at 12 p.m. as part of Senior Weekend.  The seniors will be honored after the completion of the games.
