KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dakota State (S.D.) junior
Amelie Steins has been named the Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week after a record-setting performance at the Frontier Multi-Events Championships on April 20.
The Düsseldorf, Germany native delivered a standout heptathlon showing, scoring 4,796 points to win the Frontier Women's Conference Outdoor Multi-Events Championship in a field of 11 athletes. Steins' total not only secured the individual conference title, but it also established both a career best and a new Dakota State school record in the event.
Her victory provided the Trojans with an early boost in the team race, giving Dakota State an early lead in the overall standings coming out of the multi-events portion of the meet.
With her 4,796-point mark, Steins has also positioned herself among the NAIA's best this season. As of late, she ranks No. 5 nationally in the NAIA women's heptathlon.
It was the first time in Dakota State track & field program history to have three total outdoor track & field NAIA national athletes-of-the-week in the same season. In addition, it was the first time in school history to have two NAIA Women's Outdoor National Field Athlete-of-the-Week (
