MADISON, S.D. — Dakota State (S.D.) sophomore midfielder
Charli Zimmerman was named the California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Zimmerman, a native of San Diego, Calif., anchored the Trojan defense during a pair of matches against Great Plains Athletic Conference opponents last week.
Dakota State battled Dordt (Iowa) to a 1-1 draw before coming up short in a 3-2 decision against Morningside (Iowa), the defending GPAC regular-season champion.
Zimmerman played an important role in organizing Dakota State's back line throughout both contests. She has been praised by her teammates and coaching staff for her ability to read opposing attacks and confidently direct her teammates into position to apply pressure.
The honor marks another weekly recognition for Dakota State during its first season as an affiliate member of the California Pacific Conference in women's soccer.
Sydney Quail was named to the conference's Offensive Player-of-the-Week earlier this season.
Dakota State stays on the road as they continue their four-match road stretch. The Trojans play three matches in the state of Missouri, starting Thursday at No. 17 ranked Columbia (Mo.). Kick-off is set for 4:30 p.m.
