COLUMBIA, Mo. — Dakota State (S.D.) built a two-goal advantage early in the second half Saturday afternoon before Stephens (Mo.) rallied for a 3-3 draw in a non-conference women's soccer contest at Battle High School.
The Trojans led 2-1 at halftime and extended their advantage to 3-1 on
Nichole Corona's goal in the 54th minute. The Stars responded with a pair of goals over the final 34 minutes, including Eastin Colyer's equalizer with five minutes remaining.
Dakota State moved to 0-8-2 overall, while Stephens moved to 3-3-3.
How it happened
Stephens struck first in the 11th minute. Amaura Austell found the back of the net at the 10:15 mark to give the Stars a 1-0 advantage.
Dakota State needed less than two minutes to answer. The Trojans benefited from a Stephens own goal at 12:00, tying the match 1-1.
DSU generated several scoring opportunities during the remainder of the opening half.
Aislyn Holden placed a shot on goal in the 16th minute, followed by back-to-back shots on goal by
Estefania Gonzalez in the 21st and 22nd minutes. Stephens' goalkeeper Petra Brncova stopped all three attempts.
The Trojans broke through again late in the opening half. Following a corner kick by

Samantha Bonar scored at the 40:57 mark off Hint's assist to put Dakota State ahead 2-1. DSU carried the one-goal advantage into halftime.
Dakota State added to its lead less than nine minutes into the second half. Bonar set up Corona for a goal at the 53:55 mark, extending the Trojans' advantage to 3-1.
Stephens quickly cut the deficit in half when Austell netted her second goal of the match at 56:23, trimming Dakota State's lead to 3-2.
The Stars continued to search for the equalizer. DSU goalkeeper
Sierra Verplancke stopped Felice Schreuder's shot in the 84th minute, but Stephens tied the match shortly afterward. Colyer scored at exactly the 85-minute mark to knot the contest at 3-3.
Neither team scored over the final five minutes as the match ended in a draw.
Inside the box score
Stephens held a 12-7 advantage in total shots, while Dakota State was more efficient in putting its opportunities on target. The Trojans finished with six shots on goal compared with four for the Stars.
Dakota State held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Stephens was called offside eight times compared with twice for DSU. The Trojans committed 10 fouls, while the Stars were whistled for six fouls.
Brncova recorded three saves for Stephens. Verplancke made one save while playing all 90 minutes in goal for Dakota State.
Bonar paced Dakota State offensively with a goal and an assist on her only shot of the match. Corona added a goal on one shot, while Hint registered an assist.
Gonzalez finished with two shots, both on goal. Holden added one shot on goal, while
Charli Zimmerman and
Madison Smalley each recorded one shot.
Verplancke played the full 90 minutes in goal, allowing three goals and recording one save.
Carsyn Osborn had three shots for the Stars. Austell recorded two goals and four shots. Colyer added a goal.
