MADISON, S.D. — Dakota State (S.D.) junior defensive back
Tamareon 'Frosty' Foster was named the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced their fifth installment of the league's football weekly awards Monday.
Foster, a native of Orlando, Fla., intercepted two passes as No. 21 Dakota State held off Southern Oregon 27-25 Saturday afternoon at Raider Stadium in Ashland, Ore. The victory improved the Trojans to 4-1 overall and completed their Frontier Conference crossover schedule with a 2-0 record for the second consecutive season (swept both West Division's teams Arizona Christian and Southern Oregon for two straight years).
Both of Foster's interceptions came during Dakota State's 21-point second quarter as the Trojans erased an early 11-point deficit. His first interception helped set up DSU's first scoring drive of the afternoon, which ended with
Tray Hettick connecting with
Trajan Davis for a 10-yard touchdown pass.
Foster delivered another momentum-changing play later in the second quarter. With Southern Oregon backed up near its own goal line, he intercepted quarterback Dom Montiel and returned it 17 yards for a touchdown.
Malte Hamann's ensuing extra point gave Dakota State its first lead at 14-11 with 2:53 remaining before halftime.
Foster finished the game with two interceptions for 21 return yards and two solo tackles. Dakota State's defense intercepted Montiel three times in the victory, with
Aidan Jahns recording the Trojans' other interception.
The award marks Foster's first career Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Football Player-of-the-Week honor. He joins quarterback
Tray Hettick, who was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 31, as Dakota State's weekly football award recipients this season.
Dakota State returns home Saturday to begin Frontier Conference East Division play against defending East Division champion and No. 6-ranked Montana Tech. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Brian Kern Family Stadium at Blankley Field in Madison. Madison Regional Health Systems will be the game day sponsor for the football game.
