2013 Dakota State University Athletics Annual Awards
Andy Coy (2013) - Cross Country, Track & Field (Outstanding Male Athlete)
Andy Coy was selected for DSU's Most Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year award for his second consecutive year.
Most recently, he qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships for his fourth straight year.
He was the national runner-up in the men's 1000-meter run at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships last March. He placed fourth in 2012 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field men's 1500-meter run.
Coy is a seven-time NAIA All-American athlete at Dakota State. During his impressive collegiate career at DSU, he has earned All-American status four times in Indoor Track and Field and three times in Outdoor Track and Field. He also qualified for NAIA National Cross Country Championships three times during his career, posting his career best-place finisher last November (55th place). He was named to Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Cross Country All-Conference team last fall, making his third Cross Country All-Conference honors at DSU.
Coy has excelled both on the track and in the classroom, earning academic recognition in District and National level. He was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 6 College Division for Cross Country/Track & Field, Capital One Academic All-American First Team and had been named to Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete three times (he will earn his fourth Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete honor later this spring).
Andy is the son of Rusty and Cindy Coy of Hill City, S.D. He is a senior Biology major at Dakota State University.
Kristen DiPaola (2013) - Volleyball (Outstanding Female Athlete)
Kristen DiPaola was chosen for the Most Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year award. She has been a two-time A.I.I. Volleyball All-Conference selection. She is a member of the 1,000-kill club at Dakota State during her two-year career.
DiPaola led the A.I.I. and ranked second in the nation in kills per set at 5.1. She ranked sixth in the nation in total kills with 591.
She recorded the second most kills in a single season in the DSU volleyball record book (591 kills). She is listed five times in the DSU school record book for most kills in a single match and currently holds the school record of 31 kills in a single match.
At the end of the 2012 season, DiPaola had accumulated 1,082 total kills in her two-year career a Dakota State.
Kristen is the daughter of Michael and Mary Beth DiPaola of Trinidad, Colo. She is a senior Business Management at DSU.
Luke Lamb (2013) - Men's Basketball (Dusty Andersen Award)
Luke Lamb was this year's recipient for the Dusty Andersen award for his outstanding accomplishment in men's basketball. He has served as an integral member of the men's basketball team that captured two straight A.I.I. Division II Men's Basketball Postseason Tournament Championships and participated in two consecutive NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament.
The Trojans advanced to the NAIA's 'Elite Eight' this past March for the first time since 1992. In addition, Dakota State recorded their most victories (24) in Trojan Men's Basketball school record book.
Lamb's career records include 97 3-pointers, which put him at the seventh most in the DSU men's basketball record book for career 3-point field goals made. He averaged 11.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, and has a 41 percent field goal and 85.1 percent free-throw percentage this season.
His performances earned him A.I.I. All-Tournament Team, A.I.I. All-Conference First Team and NAIA All-American Honorable Mention.
Luke is the son of Kathy Lamb of Altoona, Iowa. He is a senior Business Management/Marketing at Dakota State University.
