2015 Dakota State University Athletics Annual Awards


Mark Moeller (2015) - Cross Country, Track & Field (Outstanding Male Athlete)

Mark Moeller was chosen as the DSU's Most Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year award.

Moeller earned his second NAIA All-American status at Dakota State after placing fifth in the men's 800-meter run at the 2015 NAIA Indoor Track & Field national meet this past March.  He finished with just .004 seconds ahead of Sanj Powell of Southern University of New Orleans to earn the final spot in the men's 800-meter run national finals.  He clocked his personal record time of 1 minute, 53.39 seconds in the national finals.

Moeller also captured the 800-meter race at the 2015 North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Indoor Track & Field Conference Championships last February.  He added another first-place from the conference indoor track meet where he anchored the 4 x 400-meter relay team.

Moeller was a member of the 4 x 100-meter relay team that finished third at the 2013 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, where he earned his first NAIA All-American status.  He was an integral member of the Trojans that won the first-ever NSAA Men's Cross Country Conference Championships.

Mark is the son of Jon and Ginger Moeller of Rosholt, S.D.  He is a junior Physical Education major at Dakota State University.

Brittany Hill (2015) - Softball (Outstanding Female Athlete)

Brittany Hill was selected as the Most Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year award.

Currently her fourth season with the DSU Softball program, Hill holds five different career records in the DSU Softball record book.  Prior to this season, she holds the best batting average (.433), most hits (165), total bases (265), home runs (14) and RBIs (103).

Hill has been named to All-Conference three times during her stellar four-year career at Dakota State.  She was named to the inaugural North Star Athletic Association All-Conference First Team in 2014, while being selected to All-Conference in the Association of Independent (A.I.I.) Conference in 2012 and 2013.

Hill was chosen as the A.I.I./Frontier Softball Player-of-the-Year after batting a DSU school record single season .500 (with slugging percentage of .720) in her sophomore season in 2013.  She was also named to 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-West Region Team.  Hill was named to the 2014 NSAA Spring Sports Scholar Athlete.

Brittany is the daughter of Rod and Laurie Hill of Chino, Calif.  She is a senior General Education/Sociology major at Dakota State University.

Derek Meger (2015) - Men's Basketball (Dusty Andersen Award)

Derek Meger was this year's recipient for the Dusty Andersen award for his outstanding accomplishment in men's basketball.

Meger was an integral member of the Trojan men's basketball team that captured their first-ever NSAA Men's Basketball Conference Postseason Tournament Champions, qualifying to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament for the third time in the last four years.  The Trojans were also the NSAA Men's Basketball regular-season co-champions, earning their first conference title since 1991 (in the former South Dakota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).

Meger was selected to the North Star Athletic Association Men's Basketball All-Conference Second Team for the Trojans.  He averaged 10.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game for DSU.  He shot 59 percent from the field, converting 118 field goals in 200 attempts.

Derek is the son of Stan and Lori Meger of Duluth, Minn.  He is a junior Exercise Science major at Dakota State University.
