DeMaria is a Fresno, Calif. native that will begin his first year as the pitching coach at Dakota State.  His primary duties are working with the pitchers, recruitment of pitchers and catchers, opponent scouting, eligibility, and camp/showcase coordinator.

Prior to being named the pitching coach at Dakota State University, DeMaria served as the pitching coach for over two years at NCAA Division II University of Minnesota-Crookston.

In 2021, DeMaria’s pitching staff at UMC was instrumental assistant the team to a national ranking as high as No. 18 in the NCAA Division II polls.  In addition, his pitching staff contributed to winning the first postseason game and series in program history.  UMC and DeMaria’s pitching staff finished with an overall record of 26-12 and 18-10 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.  The NSIC is considered one of the top NCAA Division II baseball conference in the nation.  UMC qualified for the postseason and had a 3-2 record in the conference tournament, which put them in strong consideration for an at-large bid to a regional tournament.

DeMaria’s first year as the pitching coach at Minnesota-Crookston was in 2019-20.  The team finished with an 8-5 record before the season was cut short due to COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.  Highlights of DeMaria’s pitching staff n the shortened 2020 season included going 6-3 record in Florida and on of the pitchers having a program record 14 strikeouts in a game.

DeMaria’s pitching development plan is focused on individualized programing based on strengths and weaknesses using current practices, technology, and data analysis.  He visited Driveline Baseball headquarters in Washington to study and is certified Driveline foundations of pitching, pitch design, and technology.

Other developmental resources DeMaria blends are shoulder imbalance testing, mobility, strength/conditioning, Rapsodo, Core Velocity, Motus Sleeve, and Jaeger arm care/conditioning.  In addition, DeMaria is mentored by Mark Moriarty, a pitching coach in the Minnesota Twins organization with an emphasis on technological and data driven pitcher development.

The 2020-21 season for the pitching staff at UMC showed significant growth and success under DeMaria’s development plan started in 2019.  This was seen with their contribution to the team being nationally ranked as high as No. 18 in the country in 2021.

After a strong high school playing career at Edison High School in Fresno, Calif., DeMaria played all four years as NCAA Division II pitcher at the University of Mary (N.D.).

DeMaria graduated from Mary with a Bachelor of Arts in history and a Master of Education in athletic administration and physical education.
