Paytton Hobbs joined the Trojan football coaching staff in late May 2019 as the defensive coordinator and compliance coordinator.  He is also the linebackers coach.
Prior coming to DSU, Hobbs was an assistant coach for Presentation (S.D.) football team for the past three years.  He was the defensive coordinator and linebackers' coach for the Saints last season.  He also served as Co-Special Teams Coordinator and linebackers' coach during his coaching era at PC.  He helped guide the Presentation's defense to a No. 4 national ranking in total defense in 2016.
Hobbs was a graduate assistant coach for Ottawa (Kan.) football team in 2014 and 2015 seasons, where he obtained his master's degree in Business Administration.  He worked with the linebackers and assisted with the special teams.  He was part of the 2014 Ottawa Braves football team that captured the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship.  In 2015, he helped the Braves to a No. 7 national ranking in total defense in 2015.
Hobbs also worked with USA Football during the summer of 2015 as a defensive coordinator for the USA Football National Development Games in College Station, Texas.  He also served as the assistant linebacker coach at Castleton University in Vermont in 2013 and worked as the football operations and recruiting intern at Middlebury College (Vt.) in 2014.
Hobbs was a three-year letterman for Castleton Spartans.  He was named to the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) All-Academic Team in 2012.  He graduated from CU with a bachelor's degree in sports administration with a broadcasting concentration and minored in coaching. 
Paytton resides in Madison with his wife Brittny and son Oakly.
