Gillaspie is a two-time KSHSAA State Track Championships qualifier. In his final season with the Shawnee Mission West Vikings, Gillaspie ran a personal best in the 800M at the Shawnee Mission North Relays with a time of 1:58.96. He also ran a personal best in the 1600M at the Trailblazer Invite with a time of 4:35.57. Gillispie is also a two-time qualifier at the KSHSAA - 3A, 5A, 6A State Cross Country Championships. In his final cross-country season with the Vikings, Gillaspie placed 20th with a time of 16:32.0.
