D’Artist Williams is entering his fifth season as a sprints/hurdles/relays coach.
During Williams’ time as a sprints/hurdles/relays coach, his athletes have garnered three National runner-ups, eight NAIA Individual All-Americans, one All-American Relay, twenty-one individual National meet qualifiers, four relay team National meet qualifiers, sixteen North Star Athletic Association Individual Event Champions, twelve North Star Athletic Association Relay Event Champions, sixty-nine North Star Athletic Association All-Conference Individual athletes, and fourteen North Star Athletic Association All-Conference relays.
Since 2021, his athletes have broken twelve school records(men’s 60 meter hurdles, men’s 110 meter hurdles, women’s 100 meter hurdles, women’s indoor 200 meter dash, women’s indoor 400 meter dash, , men’s heptathlon, men’s decathlon, men’s outdoor 4x400 meter relay, men’s outdoor sprint medley relay, women’s outdoor 4x 200 meter relay, women’s indoor 4x400 meter relay, and the women’s outdoor 4x400 meter relay) and added 111 marks in the Dakota State “Top Ten” list.
Williams’s athletes have helped Dakota State University win four men’s indoor conference championships as well as four men’s outdoor conference championships.
The 2024 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships were quite successful for Coach Williams and Dakota State. Treshawn Roberts finished 2nd in the heptathlon for the 2nd time in his career with a score of 5154 points which earned him All-American Status. Chantz Minear finished 5th in the Heptathlon with a score of 4989 points to earn All-American status and also was an All-American in the Men’ 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.12, becoming Williams’ first ever hurdle All-American. The points scored by Treshawn and Chantz helped DSU’s men squad place 9th at the National meet which is DSU’s highest placing in school history. At the 2024 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Treshawn finished 2nd in the Decathlon with a school record score of 7172 points for All-American status. Treshawn’s 2nd place finish is the highest finisher in that event in school history.
While competing at the 2023 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Treshawn Roberts finished 2nd in the Heptathlon with a score of 5174 points becoming the highest finisher in that event in school history and earning him All-American status.
At the 2022 NAIA indoor national championships, Treshawn Roberts finished 7th in the heptathlon with a score of 4721 points which earned him his first ever All-American status. Treshawn would go on to get 6th at the NAIA Outdoor Championships in the decathlon with a score of 6325 points for his 2nd All-American honor.
During the 2021 indoor track and field season, Qua Johnson finished 7th in the men’s 60M dash with a time of 6.95 at the NAIA National Championships becoming Williams’ first ever all-American. At the 2021 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Williams’ men’s 4x400 of Riley Greenhoff, Josh Snook, Alex Derr, and Brenner Furlong came in ranked 21st and finished 6th in the nation while breaking a thirty-seven-year record by almost three whole seconds with a time of 3:13.54. That relay squad was Coach Williams’ first All-American relay.
Williams moved to Madison from Vidalia, Louisiana in 2010 and graduated from Madison High School in 2012 and continued his education at Dakota State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science. While at DSU, Williams was an All-American and three time national meet qualifier. During the 2013 indoor season, D’Artist qualified for the national meet in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.99. During the 2013 outdoor season, Williams qualified for the nationals in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.74 seconds. He was also part of the All-American 4 x 100-meter relay that finished 3rd at Nationals with a time of 40.68 seconds, which at the time, was the South Dakota Collegiate record. In 2017, Williams was the NSAA indoor conference champion in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.43 seconds.
