MADISON, S.D. - Dakota Wesleyan of the Great Plains Athletic Conference used the first-half spurt to defeat Dakota State 76-65 in women's basketball action Tuesday night at DSU Fieldhouse.

After opening the season with an 83-36 win over Grace (Neb.) on Nov. 1, the Trojans lost four straight games (1-4 overall record).  DWU improved their record to 3-1.

With the score tied at 17-17 with ten minutes and 33 seconds before halftime, Dakota Wesleyan used a 16-0 run to grab a 33-17 lead with nearly four minutes left in the first-half.

The Trojans closed the first-half with an 8-2 run as DSU trailed 35-27 at halftime.  DSU shot 28.1 percent from the field (9-for-32) in the first 20 minutes of the game compared to DWU 36.4 percent (12-for-33).

Dakota State missed its first seven shots of the second-half as DWU used a 7-0 run for a 42-27 lead with 16:58 remaining in the game.

DSU could get no closer than six points (46-40) with 11:23 remaining in regulation.

Julie Munson scored 23 points for DSU.  She pulled down eight rebounds and dished out four assists.  Kylie Westover had a double-double of 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  Cassie Jacobsen added 13 points and earned six rebounds.  Sharee Galbraith had a game-high 11 rebounds.

For DWU, Amanda Hart had 19 points on her 7-for-13 shooting from the field.  She shot 5-for-11 from the 3-point arc.  Whitnee Clayton had 13 points off the bench.  Brittany Hills added 10 points.  Kim Johnson scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds.  Celeste Beck had seven points and dished out six assists.

Clayton had three blocked shots for the Tigers.

DWU shot 43.5 percent overall from the field (27-for-62).  The Trojans were 21-for-65 from the field (32.3 percent).

DSU struggled from the free-throw line, converting 17 of 30 free-throws (56.7 percent).  DWU was 16-for-22 from the free-throw line (72.7 perent).

The Tigers outscored the Trojans 34-8 in bench points and 16-2 in transition points. 

DSU outrebounded DWU 47-44.

Dakota State looks to end their losing streak on Saturday afternoon as they head on the road.  The Trojans travel to Ellendale, N.D. to take on Trinity Bible College.  Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at the Ray Ulmer Fieldhouse.
