Dakota State races past Waldorf (Iowa) in women's basketball action

FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Dakota State University Lady T's basketball team returned back to action Saturday afternoon for the first time since Nov. 22, visiting future member of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Waldorf (Iowa) at Hanson Fieldhouse.  After holding a three-point halftime lead, the Lady T's outscored the Warriors 42-25 in the final twenty minutes for a 71-51 non-conference victory over the Warriors.

Dakota State won their second straight game and lifted their overall record to 6-3.  Waldorf remained winless in 11 games.

The Lady T's opened up with a 13-3 lead over the Warriors with fourteen minutes and eleven seconds left in the first-half. 

As DSU held a 10-point lead at 29-19, Waldorf closed the first half with a 7-0 run in the final 3:11 of the first-half.  The Lady T's held on to a 29-26 halftime advantage.

Dakota State shot 38.2 percent from the field in the first twenty minutes of the game (13-of-34) compared to WC 36.4 percent (8-of-22).  Waldorf was 7-of-12 from the free-throw line, while DSU was 2-of-3 free-throws.

Leading 41-37, the Lady T's raced to a double-digit lead by scoring nine straight points for a 50-37 lead with 10:37 remaining and never looked back. 

DSU outscored WC 30-14 in the final 14:48 of the game.

Dakota State shot 42.4 percent from the field (14-of-33) while Waldorf was 35.7 percent (10-of-28) in the second-half.  The Lady T's were 12-of-17 from the free-throw line.  The Warriors made two free-throws in six attempts.

Every Lady T players scored in the game with four players recording double-digits.  Sharee Galbraith earned a double-double of 15 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for DSU.  Erin Rabenberg added 13 points.  BreeAna Olson scored 12 points.  Jayda Swenson had 10 points.

Swenson earned four boards for Dakota State.  Madison Walford added three rebounds.  Galbraith had two blocked shots.  Walford and Kennedy Wanger each had a blocked shot.

Rabenberg and Olson each dished out five assists for the Lady T's.  Swenson recorded two assists.

Olson stole the ball three times for DSU.  Kendra Lindblad had two steals.

Mackenzie Gott led the Warriors with 13 points and two blocked shots.  Brittany Robinson added 11 points.

Kellie Schmit had nine points and ine rebounds for Waldorf.  Gott and Jennifer Nelsen each grabbed six rebounds.

Schmit produced three assists for WC.  Jenna Quina, Mikaela Vega and Connor Thompson each had two assists.

DSU shot 40.3 percent overall from the field (27-of-67) compared to WC 36 percent (18-of-50).  Waldorf made six 3-pointers in 18 attempts (33.3 percent), while the Lady T's were 3-for-13 from the 3-point arc (23.1 percent).

Dakota State nailed down 14 free-throws in 20 attempts (70 percent).  Waldorf made half of their 18 free-throws (9-of-18 – 50 percent).

WC outrebounded DSU 43-37 in the game.

The Warriors committed 25 turnovers compared to Lady T's 10 turnovers.

Dakota State returns home on Tuesday night for first time since Nov. 4.  The Lady T's kick off their two-game home stand against members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, starting with Midland (Neb.) on Tuesday evening.  Tip-off from the DSU Fieldhouse is set for 7:30 p.m.
