Hot-shooting Lady T's hand Lancers first loss of the season

YANKTON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) faced another in-state team Saturday afternoon, visiting Mount Marty (S.D.) in a women's basketball non-conference game at Cimpl Arena.  The Lady T's shot a blazing 53.4 percent from the field in 79-61 victory over the Lancers, halting DSU's 14-game losing streak in the series meeting with MMC (last Lady T's victory over the Lancers was on Dec. 30, 2004 at DSU Fieldhouse).

Dakota State raised their overall record to 5-2, their best start since 2007-08 when they started their first seven games with a 5-2 record.  Mount Marty – a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference – suffered their first loss of the season, dipping their overall record to 2-1.

Trailing 7-5, the Lady T's closed the first quarter with a 10-1 scoring outburst in the final four minutes and five seconds of the first quarter for a 15-8 lead.

DSU extended their scoring run to 22-6 as the Lady T's lead ballooned to 27-13 with less than five minutes remaining before halftime.  Dakota State held a 40-28 intermission lead, thanks to Lady T's sizzling 53.4 percent shooting from the field (17-of-31).  DSU held MMC to 29.4 percent shooting from the field in the first-half (10-of-34).

Dakota State maintained their double-digit lead for the rest of the game, securing the victory.  The Lancers could get no closer than 10 points on two different occasions (40-30 with 9:32 left in the third quarter and 59-49 with 9:47 remaining in the game).

DSU outscored MMC 39-33 in the second-half.

Sharee Galbraith posted a double-double of 17 points and earned 13 rebounds for the Lady T's.  She was 7-of-12 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.  BreeAna Olson and Madison Walford each added 16 points.  Olson was 7-of-8 from the field, while Walford was 5-of-10 from the field and 6-of-7 free-throws.

Courtney Hulstein scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench for Dakota State.  Kennedy Wagner added nine points.  Olson had six rebounds.

Lindsey Vogl dished out three assists for Dakota State.  Kendra Lindblad, Jordan Hansen and Kelsey Little each had two assists.  Lindblad and Olson each recorded two steals.

Alex Kneeland led the Laners with 19 points on her 8-of-17 shooting from the field.  Cassidy Gebhart added 14 points.  Raquel Sutera had 10 points.

Sutera and Kellie Winckler each collected six rebounds for MMC. 

The Lady T's shot 31-of-58 overall from the field (53.4 percent) compared to the Lancers' 21-of-67 (31.3 percent).  Both teams made four 3-pointers in the game.

DSU was 13-of-19 free-throws (68.4 percent), while MMC was 15-of-21 free-throws (71.4 percent).

The Lady T's outrebounded Mount Marty 44-35. 

Dakota State steps aside their regular-season play on Tuesday as they play an exhibition game at NCAA Division II Sioux Falls (S.D.).  Tip-off from the Stewart Center is set for 7 p.m.
