SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) – a member of the Northern Sun Intercollege Conference and NCAA Division II – pulled away from Dakota State (S.D.) after using a second-quarter surge for a 95-54 women's basketball non-conference victory Tuesday evening at the Stewart Center. It was an exhibition game for the Lady T's.
DSU remains at 5-2 overall record, which matched the best start since 2007-08 season. Sioux Falls remained undefeated this season with a 3-0 overall record. Both DSU and USF were former members of the South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference (SDIC).
The Cougars led 23-16 after the first quarter, but exploded in the second-quarter by scoring the Lady T's 31-9 for a 54-25 halftime lead. USF maintained their double-digits lead for the rest of the game.
Dakota State was led by Kendra Lindblad with 10 points off the bench. She was 4-of-8 from the field, including 2-of-4 from the 3-point line. BreeAna Olson added seven points. Courtney Hulstein scored six points. Kennedy Wagner, Cassie Jones, Lindsey Vogl and Kelsey Little each scored five points.
Sharee Galbraith grabbed nine rebounds for the Lady T's. Madison Walford and Little each added six rebounds. Little dished out three assists.Â
Amber Paden scored 18 points off the bench for USF. Taylor Varsho added 12 points. Alison Klostergaard had 10 points.
Sam Knecht had nine points and nine rebounds for Sioux Falls. Varsho produced six assists and stole the ball three times.
The Cougars shot 47.5 percent overall from the field (38-of-80) compared to the Lady T's 31.7 percent (19-of-60). USF was 6-of-24 from the 3-point line, while DSU was 4-of-15 from the 3-point line.Â
Sioux Falls converted 13-of-22 free-throws (59.1 percent). Dakota State was 12-of-18 free-throws (66.7 percent).
USF outrebounded DSU 52-34 in the game.
Dakota State swings back in regular-season action Thursday evening as they open up the North Star Athletic Association schedule. The Lady T's host newcomer Viterbo (Wis.) with a tip-off starting at 5:30 p.m. The game will be held at DSU Fieldhouse in Madison, S.D.
