JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) could not come up with a run Saturday afternoon at Lyle Lawrence Field as the North Star Athletic Association's (NSAA) Softball conference leader Jamestown (N.D.) earned a doubleheader sweep. The Jimmies shut out the Trojans by the scores of 9-0 in five innings and 4-0.
Dakota State dipped their overall record to 1-22 and 0-8 NSAA conference record. Jamestown won their 11th and 12th straight games to improve their overall record to 23-10 and remained undefeated in eight NSAA conference games.
Game 1 – Jamestown (N.D.) 9, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL/5 innings
Dakota State and Jamestown went scoreless in the opening inning.
The Jimmies grabbed the first lead with four runs scored with two outs in the bottom fourth frame. After Sydney Greenlund reached on base by a fielder's choice, Tylnn McKeever hit a single to advance Greenlund to second base. Emma Keller recorded an RBI single to score Greenlund for 1-0 UJ lead.
Jamestown made it 2-0 after Kalea Chapman's RBI double to score McKeever. Rylee Perez added a 2-RBI single to score Keller and Chapman to extend Jimmies' lead to 4-0.
UJ added two runs in the bottom third inning to make it 6-0, highlighted by Hanna Dunnigan's single and Jessica Snow's double to lead off the bottom third.
The Jimmies put together a 3-run production in the bottom fourth inning for a 9-0 lead. Emily Newman blasted a 2-run home run, while Autumn Wang added an RBI single.
Dakota State could not record a run in the top fifth inning as they left one runner on base when the game ended.
Brittany Hill and Lexy Miller each had a single for the Trojans. Sara Erickson, Ariana Duran and Lynnie Angle each recorded a walk.
Perez was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three singles and two RBIs for the Jimmies. Newman had a home run and produced two RBIs. Wang and McKeever each had two hits.
Jamestown pound out with 13 hits in the game compared to Dakota State two hits.
Both teams left four runners on base.
Ellie Kristensen recorded the loss on the pitching mound for DSU. She worked for four innings and allowed nine runs on 13 hits.
Dunnigan (10-3) earned the victory for UJ. She tossed four innings and limited the Trojans to one hit. She recorded six strikeouts and allowed three walks. Emma Keller pitched a scoreless fifth inning, giving up a hit.
Game 2 – Jamestown (N.D.) 4, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL
The Jimmies scored all of their four runs in the first three innings and held on to defeat the Trojans 4-0 in the second game of the NSAA four-game series.
Newman hit an RBI double to score Sydney Jeffers for UJ 1-0 lead, who led off with a single in the bottom first frame.
Brook Rheault recorded an RBI single and the Jimmies added a run caused by DSU's defensive error, extending Jamestown's lead to 3-0 in the bottom second inning.
Newman and Dunnigan hit back-to-back doubles in the bottom fourth inning to give UJ a four-run lead.
Dakota State had a bases loaded situation in the top seventh inning after Miller's single, Erica Belter's walk and Erickson's single. The Jimmies ended the game with a strikeout, securing a doubleheader sweep over the Trojans.
Hill was 2-for-3 with a double and single for Dakota State. Erickson and Elizabeth Rubalcava each added a single. Belter, Erickson and Angle each reached on base by a walk.
Newman had two doubles and an RBI for Jamestown. Dunnigan added a double and an RBI. McKeever, Jeffers and Rheault each had a hit.
Both teams had six hits in the game. DSU committed three defensive errors while UJ did not record a defensive miscue.
The Trojans left nine runners on base. The Jimmies had three runners left on base.
Kristensen (1-13) tossed a complete game loss for the Trojans. She pitched six innings and gave up four runs (two unearned) on six hits. She recorded three strikeouts.
Rheault (11-3) picked up the pitching victory for the Jimmies. She tossed five innings and allowed three hits and two walks. She struck out six DSU's batters. Keller worked for the final two innings and gave up three hits.
Dakota State and Jamestown conclude their NSAA four-game series Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The doubleheader will again take place at Lyle Lawrence Field in Jamestown.
