CRETE, Neb. – Doane (Neb.) shot 11-of-20 3-pointers Friday evening, cruising to an 82-52 victory over Dakota State (S.D.) on the first day of the Doane Classic at Haddix Center. It was Lady T's fifth straight game facing a team from the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Dakota State fell to 0-5 overall record. Doane is 2-3 overall after the victory.
The Tigers opened up with a 13-3 lead and extended it to 21-9 after the first quarter. Doane held a 39-20 halftime advantage after shooting 46.9 percent from the field (15-of-32), including 7-of-14 3-pointers in the first-half. DSU was held to 27.6 percent shooting (8-of-29) and 1-of-10 from the 3-point line.
DC maintained control for the rest of the game, outscoring the Lady T's 43-32 in the second-half.
BreeAna Olson, Britley Plautz and Lindsey Vogl each scored eight points for Dakota State. Jordan Hansen and Kennedy Wagner each added six points. Jamie Tebben had five points.
Plautz grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the Lady T's. Cassie Jones, Tebben and Kelly Criddle each had four rebounds. Wagner, Shemika Frazier and Olson each dished out two assists.
Olson registered a game-high five steals for DSU. Criddle and Plautz each recorded three blocked shots.
Hanah Barnard was 10-of-13 from the field and made 5-of-6 3-pointers, collecting 25 points for the Tigers. McKenna Dodd added 10 points. Morgan Hill had 9 points. Allie Satterly earned 10 boards.
Hill produced five assists and stole the ball three times for DC. Jenna Nieveen had eight assists.
Doane shot 31-of-63 from the field (49.2 percent) compared to Dakota State 31.7 percent (19-of-60). The Lady T's were 8-of-15 from the free-throw line while the Tigers made 9-of-13 free-throws.
DC outrebounded DSU 45-34 in the game. The Tigers had 24 assists compared to the Lady T's 10 assists. Both teams recorded nine steals.
Dakota State plays on the second day of the Doane Classic Saturday afternoon, facing Hastings (Neb.). Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at Haddix Center in Crete, Neb.
