Lady T's fall to Lancers 77-69 at Sanford Pentagon

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Mount Marty (S.D.) drained a total of 11 3-pointers in the game Saturday evening, defeating Dakota State (S.D.) 77-69 on the first day of the 2nd Annual South Dakota NAIA Basketball Classic at Sanford Pentagon's Heritage Court.

The Lady T's fell to 1-2 overall record while the Lancers remained undefeated with a 2-0 overall record.

DSU earned their first lead of the game at 2-0 after a lay-up by Lindsey Vogl with 9 minutes, 32 seconds on the clock.  The Lancers then went on an 11-2 run to earn an 11-4 lead with 6 minutes left in the first period.

Trailing 13-6, Dakota State answered back with an 11-4 run to tie the game at 17-17 after a field goal by Jamie Tebben with less than 40 seconds to go.  A 3-pointer by Ali Kuci gave MMC a 20-17 lead by the end of the first quarter.

The Lady T's kicked off the second quarter with an 8-2 scoring tear to regain their lead at 25-22 with 5:20 on the clock.  DSU held a 33-29 lead, but the Lancers closed the first-half with a 6-0 run for a 35-33 halftime lead. 

DSU outscored MMC 16-15 in the second quarter.

Mount Marty extended their scoring run from late second quarter into the early third quarter, making it an 11-0 outburst to take a 40-33 lead with 9:03 on the clock.  The Lady T's snapped the scoring drought with a basket by Alison Scheetz as DSU cut MMC's lead to 40-35 with 8:51 left in the third.

A 3-pointer by Tebben reduced Lady T's deficit down to 49-47 with 42 seconds remaining in the third period.  Peyton Stolle hit a lay-up with just few seconds before the end of the third quarter, giving the Lancers a 51-47 lead.

Shelby Vogel started the fourth quarter with a layup as DSU trailed 51-49 with 9:50 remaining.  Mount Marty went on an 8-0 run to earn the first double-digit lead at 59-49 with 7:45 left, forcing the Lady T's to use one of their timeouts.

Dakota State could get no closer than three points at 61-58 with less than five minutes to go.  The Lady T's trailed by four points on two different occasions at 64-60 with 3:22 left and 69-65 with 1:46 remaining.

Mount Marty closed the game with an 8-4 run to secure the victory.  The Lancers outscored the Lady T's 26-22 in the final quarter.

Tebben posted a double-double of 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for Dakota State.  Kennedy Wagner added 14 points.  Cassie Jones scored 10 points off the bench.  Vogel tallied eight points.  Britley Plautz had six points and six rebounds.  Raven Patton collected 10 boards.

Vogel, Tebben and Leah Marsh each stole the ball two times for DSU.  Wagner, Scheetz and Vogel each dished out two assists.  Wagner, Tebben and Kelley Criddle each recorded a blocked shot.

Kuci poured in 24 points on her 8-of-17 field goal shooting, where her points all came from 3-pointers for the Lancers.  Sarah Castaneda added 16 points and earned 8 rebounds.  Stolle scored 11 points off the bench. 

Kaylee Granum recorded three steals in the game for Mount Marty.  Molly Koisti dished out six assists. 

The Lancers shot 40.6 percent overall from the field (28-of-69) compared to the Lady T's 38.2 percent (26-of-68).  MMC was 11-of-30 from the 3-point arc (36.7 percent).  DSU was 4-of-18 3-pointers (22.2 percent).

Dakota State made all 13 free-throw attempts in the game.  Mount Marty went 10-of-17 from the free-throw line (58.8 percent).

The Lady T's edged the Lancers in rebounding 44-43.  DSU outscored MMC 38-26 inside the paint and 8-0 on fast-break opportunities. 

Dakota State plays nationally-ranked No. 8 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on the second day of the South Dakota NAIA Basketball Classic.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Sanford Pentagon's Heritage Court.
