ABERDEEN, S.D. – After a 13-13 tie ball game after the first quarter Friday evening at Strode Center, Presentation (S.D.) outscored Dakota State (S.D.) 25-13 in the second period and held off Lady T's comeback bid for a 73-69 North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Women's Basketball conference victory. Both teams struggled from the field in the game, with the Saints 31.4 perfect from the field and the Lady T's 29.9 percent.
Dakota State fell to 8-14 overall record, while Presentation improved to 8-10 overall record. Both DSU and PC are in a three-way tie for fourth-place with No. 22-ranked Mayville State (N.D.) in the NSAA conference standings.
The Lady T's and Saints went through five ties and five lead changes in the first ten minutes of the game, with the lead no bigger than three points by DSU (5-2 after a 3-pointer by Jamie Tebben, assisted by Lindsey Vogl with 6:39 on the clock).
DSU's Raven Patton made a free-throw with less than a minute in the first period, tying the game at 13-13. The Lady T"s were 5-of-15 from the field (33.3 percent) in the first quarter, while holding the Saints to 4-of-18 field goals (22.2 percent).
Vogl drained a 3-pointer with 4:29 on the clock as the Lady T's cut PC's lead to 27-24. Presentation outscored Dakota State 11-2 in the final 4:11 of the second quarter, opening up a 38-26 halftime advantage.
The Saints shot 34.2 percent from the field (13-of-38) in the first-half, while the Lady T's struggled from the field with a 27.3 percent shooting (9-of-33).
PC continued its scoring surge after scoring the first four points of the third quarter, gaining the biggest lead of the game at 42-26 with 9:05 on the clock.
Dakota State closed the third period with a 17-9 run to cut PC's lead to 51-43.
Trailing 60-49 in the fourth quarter, the Lady T's stormed back with a 12-3 run to cut PC's lead to 63-61 after a 3-pointer by Cassie Hand with 2:50 remaining.
The Saints maintained their lead between three- and six-point for the final 2:27 of the game. DSU could get no closer than three points at 71-68 after a basket by Tebben with less than 50 seconds to go.
Dakota State outscored Presentation 43-35 in the second-half. The Lady T's shot 32.4 from the field (11-of-34) compared to the Saints 28.1 percent (9-of-32) in the final twenty minutes of the game.
Tebben tied her career-high with 19 points off the bench for DSU. She was 5-of-10 from the field and converted 7-of-10 from the free-throw line. Hand scored a career-high 15 points off the bench. She was 4-of-6 from the 3-point arc and made 3-of-4 free-throws. Kennedy Wagner scored 14 points. Vogl added seven points.
Patton pulled down nine rebounds for the Lady T's. Wagner and Tebben each tallied six rebounds. Wagner recorded two blocked shots. Patton, Britley Plautz and Alexis Evans each recorded a block.
Wagner contributed a game-high six assists for Dakota State. She also stole the ball four times.
Allison Cox posted a double-double of 16 points and collected 15 rebounds for the Saints. Sophia Poole scored 16 points off the bench. Macy Toelle had 15 points and 6 rebounds. Cox had four assists and two steals.
Presentation was 22-of-70 field goals, while Dakota State was 20-of-67 field goals. The Lady T's drained 11 3-pointers in 30 attempts compared to the Saints 6-of-26 3-pointers.
PC only missed five free-throws in the game, making 23-of-28 free-throws (82.1 percent). DSU struggled from the free-throw line, converted 18 free-throws in 34 attempts (52.9 percent). The Lady T's were 3-of-12 free-throws in the first-half.
DSU outrebounded PC 47-38 in the game. The Lady T's outscored the Saints 41-29 in bench points.
Dakota State continues its North Star conference road trip Saturday afternoon, visiting the conference's leader No. 6-ranked Jamestown (N.D.). Tip-off from the Newman Arena is set for 3 p.m. in Jamestown, N.D.
Presentation stays home Saturday afternoon for a North Star contest versus No. 19-ranked Valley City State (N.D.) at 3 p.m.
