Trojans set 3-point field goals single-game record in 98-47 rout over Wolfpacks

MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) set a new single-game school record Friday evening, hitting 22 3-pointers in 98-47 rout over Oak Hills (Minn.) on the first day of the home tournament at DSU Fieldhouse.  All 12 Trojan players scored in the game, completing a season series sweep over the Wolfpacks

Dakota State won their third straight game, lifting their overall record to 3-7.  Oak Hills fell to 0-10 overall record.

The Trojans look to extend their winning streak to four games Saturday evening.  DSU hosts Doane (Neb.), who rolled past Presentation (S.D.) 109-64 in the first game of the tournament.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Presentation and Oak Hills play in the first game Saturday at 4 p.m.

Dakota State (S.D.) 98, Oak Hills (Minn.) 47 – FINAL

  • After trading leads for the first minute of the game, the Trojans opened with an 18-6 lead with 14:11 left on the clock after a basket by Anthony Costello
  • The Wolfpacks trimmed DSU's lead into single-digit at 26-17 with 9:24 left in the first.  Justin Mason hit a 3-pointer as Dakota State regained their double-digit lead at 29-17 and never looked back.
  • The Trojans led 49-27 by halftime, thanks to their 52.6 field goal percentage (20-of-38).  DSU shot 9-of-23 3-pointers.  Oak Hills was held to 32.1 percent (9-of-28 field goals) and 4-of-16 from the 3-point line.
  • Dakota State outscored Oak Hills 49-23 in the final 20 minutes of the game to secure the victory.  The Trojans were 17-of-33 from the field (51.5 percent), with 13 field goals coming from the 3-point arc.  The Wolfpacks were 9-fo-31 from the field (29 percent) and 3-of-15 3-pointers.
  • Carson Rentz tallied 17 points on his 6-of-11 field goal shooting, including 5-of-10 3-pointers for Dakota State.  Jeff Currin added a career-high 13 points off the bench.  Mason scored 11 points.  Gavin Schipper scored 10 points.  Shaq Russell and Mason Ritter each scored eight points. 
  • Schipper led the Trojans with eight rebounds.  Anthony Costello had seven points and grabbed seven rebounds.  Currin earned eight rebounds.
  • Nine DSU players recorded at least an assist in the game, led by Cole Bruhn, Ritter and Mason each with four assists.  Gare Ewefada, Schipper, and Mason each stole the ball twice.
  • Ronnie Jackson posted a double-double of 26 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Wolfpacks.  Will Richmond added 19 points and seven rebounds. 
  • Dakota State shot 52.1 percent overall from the field (37-of-71) and drained 22 3-pointers in 50 attempts (40 percent).   The Trojans broke the previous school record of 19 3-pointers made versus Trinity Bible (N.D.) on Nov. 12.
  • Oak Hills was 18-of-59 from the field (30.5 percent).  The Wolfpacks were 7-of-31 3-pointers (22.6 percent).
  • DSU outrebounded OHC 46-31.
