DSU men's basketball snaps losing skid, rolls past Oak Hills (Minn.) 83-61

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Five Dakota State (S.D.) scored in double-digits Saturday evening, rolling to an 83-61 victory over Oak Hills (Minn.) on the second day of the Isreal-Strong Memorial Classic hosted by Presentation (S.D.) at Strode Center.  The Trojans shot a blazing 55 percent from the field.

Dakota State is 1-7 overall record.  Oak Hills fell to 0-6 overall record.  Both teams will be playing in their second meeting of the season on Nov. 22 as part of Dakota State tournament at DSU Fieldhouse.

The Trojans look to make it two straight wins on Tuesday evening, hosting Trinity Bible (N.D.).  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse.

Dakota State (S.D.) 83, Oak Hills (Minn.) 61 – FINAL

  • Dakota State and Oak Hills went through three ties and two lead changes in the first five-plus minutes of the game. The Trojans hit six 3-pointers in the first 11 minutes and 55 seconds, rolling to a 26-16 lead.
  • DSU led 45-26 by halftime, ignited by 58.6 field goal shooting (17-29 field goals).  The Trojans were 10-of-20 from the 3-point arc.  The Wolfpacks were held to 32.1 percent form the field (9-of-28) and 5-of-14 from the 3-point line.
  • The Trojans maintained control for the rest of the game, holding a double-digit lead in the second-half.  DSU outscored Oak Hills 38-35 in the final twenty minutes of the game.
  • A 3-pointer by Cole Bruhn (assisted by Shaq Russell) gave Dakota State its biggest lead of the game at 78-52 with 3:20 remaining.
  • The Trojans were 16-of-31 from the field (51.6 percent) in the second-half compared to the Wolfpacks 46.4 percent (13-of-28).
  • Carson Rentz poured in 20 points for Dakota State.  He was 7-of-12 from the field, including 6-of-11 from the 3-point line.  He also had four rebounds.  Josh McGreal went 6-of-6 from the field for 12 points.
  • Jeff Currin scored a career-high 12 points off the bench for the Trojans.  Russell added 11 points (4-of-4 field goals) and contributed six assists.  Anthony Costello tallied 10 points (5-of-6 field goals).  Bruhn had eight points.
  • Gare Ewefada had five points and four assists for DSU.  Brady Elder dished out a game-high seven assists.
  • Sawyer Koch pulled down eight rebounds for Dakota State.  Drew Blosmo added six rebounds.
  • Ronnie Jackson was 8-of-17 from the field (all 3-pointers) for 25 points for Oak Hills.  He also had five rebounds.  Will Richmond added 22 points and seven rebounds.  Jackson and Richmond each had three assists.
  • Tanner Lewis scored eight points and collected six rebounds for the Wolfpacks.
  • Dakota State shot 33-of-60 overall from the field and 16-of-36 (44 percent) from the 3-point line.  Oak Hills was 22-of-56 from the field (39.3 percent) and 11-of-30 3-pointers (36.7 percent). 
  • Dakota State outrebounded Oak Hills 32-23.
  • The Trojans set season-highs in 3-point field goals made (16) and assists (23).
