TUCSON, ARIZ. – Dakota State (S.D.) could not overcome the fast start by another member of the Chicgoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) St. Francis (Ill.) Tuesday afternoon in the fourth game of the Tucson (Ariz.) Invitational. The Saints raced to a 9-0 lead after the first inning and defeated the Trojans 12-2 in five innings.
DSU's overall record fell to 2-10 after Tuesday's games. The Trojans are currently 2-2 record in the tournament. St. Francis now has a 7-5 overall record.
Dakota State takes a day off on Wednesday and returns to action on Thursday. The Trojans will face Aquinas (Mich.) and Indiana Tech before wrapping up tournament play on Friday against Dordt (Iowa) and No. 14-ranked Olivet Nazarene (Ill.).
St. Francis (Ill.) 12, Dakota State (S.D.) 2 – FINAL/5 innings
- St. Francis scored their first two runs in the first inning, thanks to three consecutive singles to kick off the bottom half of the inning. Brittany Osborn, Paige Egan and Danielle Callahan each hit a single, with Callahan producing an RBI single for USF 1-0 lead. Kayla Garcia hit an RBI double play to score Egan to extend their lead to 2-0.
- The Saints exploded for seven runs in the bottom second inning as their lead ballooned to 9-0. The inning was highlighted by Callahan's 2-RBI double and a 3-run home run by Lindsey Andrews.
- Xotchil Lopez and Faith Danner each produced an RBI single in the top fourth as the Trojans snapped their scoring drought, trailing 9-2.
- USF answered with three runs scored in the bottom fourth to widen their lead to 12-2. The Saints secured the game in five innings.
- Xotchil Lopez and Danner each had a single and an RBI for Dakota State. Elizabeth Whitesides added a hit. Julia Andersen and Xitlali Lopez each scored a run and reached on base by a walk.
- Brittany Osborne led St. Francis with three runs. Callahan was 3-of-3 at the plate with four RBIs. Andrews had a home run and drove in three runs. Egan had three hits and RBIs.
- USF outhit DSU 13-3 in the game. The Trojans recorded two double plays, defensively.
- Danner (L, 1-4) recorded the defeat after tossing four innings for Dakota State. She gave up 12 runs (eight unearned) on 13 hits.
- Madison Tucker (W, 2-0) threw a complete game victory St. Francis. She yielded two unearned runs on three hits.
