MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) hit season-highs 59.3 percent from the field and poured in 98 points to earn their first men's basketball victory of the season, defeating Mount Marty (S.D.) 98-86 Sunday afternoon at DSU Fieldhouse. Five Trojans players hit double-digits in scoring.
The Trojans improved to 1-3 overall record, while the Lancers suffered its first setback of the season in three games (2-1 overall record). Both teams met for the first time since Nov. 3, 2019.
DSU and MMU will meet for the second meeting of the season on Nov. 28 on the second day of the Draemel Classic in Fremont, Neb.
Dakota State heads to Sioux Center, Iowa on Tuesday evening to take on another opponent of the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The Trojans visit Dordt (Iowa) with a tip-off at 7:30 p.m. The game will be held at DeWitt Gymnasium.

- Josh Arlt and Elijah Pappas hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give Mount Marty a 6-0 lead with seventeen minutes, fifty-three seconds on the clock.
- Ronnie Latting snapped DSU's scoring drought with a lay-up with 17:33 left in the first half as DSU trailed 6-2 (assisted by Deshawn Kelly).
The Lancers stretched its lead to 10 points at 14-4 after a 3-pointer by Kade Stearns with 14:27 on the clock in the first period.- Trailing 16-6, the Trojans stormed back with a 17-5 outburst to gain their first lead at 23-21 capped by a 3-pointer by Gavin Schipper with 8:21 to go before halftime.
- Lamarr Wood hit a pair of free-throws to extend DSU's lead to 34-25 with 3:36 to go in the first.
- Stearns drained a 3-pointer as the Lancers trimmed the Trojans' lead to 41-36 with less than 20 seconds to go before halftime.
- Dakota State shot 55.6 percent from the field in the first twenty minutes of the game (15-of-27 field goals) compared to Mount Marty 50 percent (14-of-28 field goals).
- After Lincoln Jordre opened the second half with a basket for the Lancers (DSU led 41-38), the Trojans made 6-of-7 field goals to fuel their 13-2 scoring run to balloon their lead to 54-40 with 15:16 left after a basket by Latting (assisted by Jaxon Simons).
- Kelley drained a 3-pointer as the Trojans posted its biggest lead of the game at 68-46 with 11:35 remaining. Jordan Lynn also hit a basket for the largest lead of the game at 70-48.
- Dakota State maintained their double-digit lead for the rest of the game.
- Mount Marty could get no closer than nine points after using a 9-2 scoring run to cut DSU's lead to 93-84 with less than a minute to go.
- The Trojans outscored the Lancers 57-50 in the final twenty minutes of the game to secure the victory.
- DSU shot a blazing 62.5 percent from the field (20-of-32 field goals). MMU was also red-hot from the field, shooting 60.6 percent (20-of-33 field goals).
Lynn poured in a career-high 30 points on his 11-of-18 field goals and converted 8-of-11 free-throws for Dakota State. He pulled down eight rebounds and stole the ball four times. Wood also netted a career-high 18 points off the bench on his perfect 5-of-5 field goals and 8-of-8 free-throws. He registered six rebounds and four blocked shots.- Schipper and Kelly each added 12 points. Kelley dished out a game-high eight assists. Simons contributed four assists. Berto Gittens had 10 points. Maxwell Nielson stole the ball twice.
- Nick Coleman scored 18 points off the bench on his 8-of-12 field goals for MMU. Tyrell Harper posted a double-double of 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. He had seven assists.
- Pappas and Stearns each scored 11 points for the Lancers. Pappas had six rebounds.
- Dakota State shot 35-of-59 field goals compared to Mount Marty 34-of-61 field goals (55.7 percent). MMU hit 12-of-26 3-pointers (46.2 percent), while DSU was 6-of-14 3-pointers (42.9 percent).
- The Trojans converted 22-of-26 free-throws (78.6 percent). The Lancers were 6-of-11 free-throws (54.5 percent).
- MMU outrebounded DSU 31-28.
The Trojans outscored the Lancers 19-9 in points off turnovers and 46-38 inside the paint. Mount Marty outscored Dakota State 9-4 in transition points, 12-6 in second-chance points and 39-33 in bench points.
