ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Dakota State University Trojan softball team faced its third opponent from the Great Plains Athletic Conference on the second day of the Fairfield Inn & Suites PC Dome Classic Saturday afternoon, held on the campus of Presentation (S.D.). The game was scoreless after two innings before the nationally ranked Morningside (Iowa) scored 13 straight runs in 2 and 2/3 innings for a 13-0 five-inning victory over the Trojans.
DSU fell to 1-2 overall record. Morningside, who is the GPAC softball preseason favorite to win the league title and ranked No. 20 in the NAIA softball preseason poll, stayed perfect with an 8-0 record.

- Dakota State could not convert their scoring chances in the opening inning. Lia Chan led off with a walk and advanced to third base on defense's indifference. Madison Aldendifer followed up with a single, but Chan was tagged out at home.
- The Mustangs ended their scoring drought in the bottom third frame, thanks to a pair of doubles. Vanessa Bohuslavsky led off with a double. Ellie Cropley drilled an RBI double to score Bohuslavsky for MC 1-0 lead.
- Breanna Tjebben added an RBI single to score Cropley to extend Morningside's lead to 2-0 in the bottom third.
- The Mustangs produced three runs in the bottom fourth to balloon their lead to 5-0.
- MC exploded for eight runs in the fifth inning, ending the game with a grand slam by Morgan Nixon with two outs.
- Morningside outhit Dakota State 13-4 in the game.
- Rosie Philop led the Trojans with two singles. Xitlali Lopez added a double. Aldendifer had a single. Chan reached on base by a walk two times. Melissa Krapf recorded a walk.
- The Mustangs produced five doubles in the game, led by Bohuslavsky with two doubles. Ashton Whited, Cropley and Sydney Petersen each registered a double.
- Nixon drove in four runs for Morningside. Cropley and Whited each added two RBIs.
- Madison Biller (L, 1-1) took the setback in the pitching circle, working for 3 2/3 innings. She allowed five runs on eight hits. Aldendifer pitched one inning in relief, giving up eight runs on five hits.
- Katherine Wurtz (W, 3-0) earned the victory after tossing four scoreless innings. She limited the Trojans to three hits. Alex Nelson tossed a scoreless fifth inning in relief, yielding DSU to one hit.
- Both teams left four runners left on base.
