ABERDEEN, S.D. – Jamestown (N.D.) raced to a 5-0 lead after two innings and never looked back for a 14-2 five-inning softball victory over Dakota State (S.D.) on the final game of the Fairfield Inn & Suites PC Dome Classic Saturday afternoon on the campus of Presentation (S.D.). The Jimmies pound out 20 hits in the game compared to the Trojans five hits.
Dakota State finished the tournament with a 1-3 record. Jamestown is 7-3 overall record. Both teams were former members of the Dakota Athletic Conference and North Star Athletic Association.
DSU awaits to hear for their next opponents in the Friends (Kan.) Invitational, which is set for March 5 through March 7.
Jamestown (N.D.) 14, Dakota State (S.D.) 2 – FINAL/5 innings
- Both teams did not score in the first inning and left one runner on base.
- With bases loaded situation for the Jimmies in the top second frame, Gracie Fisher produced a 2-RBI single to earn a 2-0 lead. Morgan Geiszler added an RBI single to extend UJ's lead to 3-0.
- Jamestown ballooned their lead to 5-0 with two outs in the top second after Sanitna Zito's 2-RBI single.
- The Jimmies poured in eight runs in the top fourth inning, highlighted by seven straight hits. Fisher highlighted the inning with a 3-RBI triple. Geiszler hit an RBI single to widen UJ's lead to 13-0 lead.
- UJ scored once in the top fifth inning to make it 14-0.
- Dakota State ended their scoring drought in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Julia Andersen led off with a double, followed by Mackenzie Sims' double to advance Andersen to third base. Rosie Philop hit an RBI single to score Andersen as the Trojans trailed 14-1.
- Madison Aldendifer added an RBI double to score Sims as Dakota State cut UJ's lead to 14-2. The Trojans could not extend the game into the sixth inning as the Jimmies secured the victory.
- Aldendifer and Philop each had a hit and an RBI for Dakota State. Andersen and Sims each added a double and a run scored. Sarah Torres had a single.
- Aldendifer and Elizabeth Whitesides each recorded a walk for DSU.
- Zito was 3-of-4 at the plate with a double, two singles and drove in a game-high four runs for Jamestown. Sydney Prussia was 4-of-4 at the plate. Fisher was 3-of-4 at the plate with a triple, two singles and collected five RBIs.
- Geiszler, Mariah Wick, Jenna Remenar and Lauren Diemert each had two hits.
- The Jimmies left seven runners on base compared to the Trojans four runners left on base.
- Xitlali Lopez (L, 0-1) took the loss after working two innings in the pitching circle for DSU. She gave up three runs on seven hits. Philop tossed two innings in relief, giving up six runs on six hits. Xotchil Lopez pitched for one inning, giving up five runs on seven hits.
- Katie Merchant (W, 3-1) earned a complete game victory for Jamestown. She allowed two runs on five hits.
