WICHITA, Kan. – Melissa Krapf drove in three runs combined with Lopez's sisters one-hit in propelling Dakota State (S.D.) to an 8-0 shutout victory over York (Neb.) to kick off the Friends (Kan.) Tournament. The tournament is held at Two Rivers Youth Complex.
Dakota State improved to 2-3 overall record. York remained winless in four games.
The Trojans take on Friends (Kan.) following the game to wrap up the day.
Dakota State (S.D.) 8, York (Neb.) 0 – FINAL
- After the first two outs of the bottom first frame, the Trojans exploded for five runs to grab a 5-0 lead highlighted by a pair of doubles.
- Sarah Torres reached on base by a walk. Xitlali Lopez followed up with a single and advanced Torres to second base. Lia Chan drilled an RBI double to score Torres to give DSU a 1-0 lead (Lopez advanced to third base).
- Madison Aldendifer followed up with an RBI single to score Xitlali Lopez to widen the Trojans' lead to 2-0. Xotchil Lopez continued its scoring surge as she hit an RBI single to score Chan as DSU ballooned their lead to 3-0.
- Krapf capped the first inning with a 2-RBI double to score Aldendifer and Xotchil Lopez as Dakota State's lead grew to 5-0.
- The Trojans plated three more runs in the bottom second inning to make it 8-0. Xitlali Lopez and Xotchil Lopez each had an RBI single in the inning, while Krapf added her third RBI of the game after reaching on base by a walk with bases situation and two outs.
- York ended its drought with their first hit of the game in the top fifth inning, with a single by Sofia Perez.
- Xitlali Lopez and Xotchil Lopez each went 2-of-3 at the plate for the Trojans. Xitlali scored twice, while Xotchil drove in two runs. Chan added a double and an RBI. Aldendifer produced a hit and an RBI.
- Elizabeth Whitesides and Rosie Philop each had a hit and a run scored for DSU. McKenzie Hermanson and Mackenzie Sims each hit a single.
- Dakota State outhit York 11-1 in the game.
- Xitlali Lopez (W, 1-1) tossed four shutout innings to earn her first win of the season for DSU. She did not give up a hit. Xotchil Lopez worked the fifth inning in relief, yielding one hit.
- Natalie Luna pitched the first inning in the pitching circle for York. She gave up five runs on five hits. Kate Reyes (L, 0-1) recorded the defeat after working for two outs in relief, allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits. Briana Walter tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings, giving up four hits.
