Bulldogs roll past Trojans in Friends (Kan.) softball invitational

WICHITA, Kan. – Concordia (Neb.) of the Great Plains Athletic Association racked up nine runs after the first inning and rolled past Dakota State (S.D.) 12-3 in five innings on the final day of the Friends (Kan.) softball invitational at Two Rivers Youth Complex.

Dakota State fell to 3-6 overall record.  Concordia, receiving votes in the NAIA Softball Coaches' Top 25 national poll, lifted their overall record to 9-1.

The Trojans wrap up the tournament with a contest against another GPAC foe, Hastings (Neb.).  The game is set for 4 p.m.

(RV) Concordia (Neb.) 12, Dakota State (S.D.) 3 – FINAL/5 innings

  • The Bulldogs poured in nine runs in the opening.  Jenessa Jarvis drilled a 3-RBI double, followed by Camry Moore's RBI double to highlight the inning for 9-0 CUNE lead.
  • Concordia added three more runs in the bottom second frame, thanks to three doubles.  Caitlyn McGarvie and Jarvius each had an RBI double, extending Concordia's lead to 12-0.
  • Vinitzia Blanco blasted a solo home run in the top fourth inning as the Trojans trailed 12-1.  It was her third home run of the season and her fifth career home run at Dakota State.
  • DSU added two more runs in the top fifth inning to trim CUNE's lead to 12-3.  The Bulldogs secured the victory as the Trojans left two runners on base when the game ended.
  • Blanco recorded a home run and an RBI for Dakota State.  Sarah Torres added a single and an RBI.  Jacquelyn Folkers and Xitlali Lopez each had a hit.
  • Jarvis collected two doubles and drove in a game-high four RBIs for Concordia.  McGarvie added a double and two RBIs.  Kylee Nixon had two hits and an RBI.  Camry Moore had a double and an RBI.
  • CUNE outhit DSU 11-4 in the game.  The Bulldogs committed four defensive errors compared to the Trojans two defensive miscues.  Both teams left four runners on base.
  • DSU's Xitlali Lopez (L, 2-2) recorded the defeat in the pitching circle after giving up nine runs (one unearned) on six hits in the first inning.  Xotchil Lopez worked for three innings in relief, allowing three runs (one unearned) on five hits.  She struck out four CUNE's batters.
  • Jerzi Rowe (W, 4-1) earned the victory for Concordia.  She tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings and gave up two hits.  Ashley Evans pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief, yielding three runs (two unearned) on two hits.
