DICKINSON, N.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) and Dickinson State (N.D.) played a rare North Star Athletic Association softball tripleheader Saturday afternoon at North Softball Complex. The Blue Hawks shut down the Trojans 6-0 in the first game and 9-0 in five innings in the second game. DiSU limited DaSU to six total hits in two games combined.
Both teams played a tripleheader Saturday with a potential of a poor weather forecast conditions for Sunday.
Game 1: Dickinson State (N.D.) 6, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL
- After two scoreless innings in the first game, the Blue Hawks grabbed the first lead of the game in the bottom third inning. Ashley Nash led off with a single. Katelyn Kubitschek hit an RBI single to score Kubitschek for 1-0 DiSU lead (Kutitschek advanced to second base on the throw).
- Jaya Allen followed up with an RBI single to score Kubitschek to extend the Blue Hawks lead to 2-0 in the bottom third.
- Dakota State was unable to score in the top fourth inning, despite a double by Xitlali Lopez.
- The Blue Hawks plated three runs in the bottom fifth, highlighted by Hailey Enriquez's 2-RBI double to balloon their lead to 5-0.
- Dickinson State scored once in the bottom sixth inning to complete the final score. The Blue Hawks secured the victory in the top seventh as the Trojans left a running on first base by Madison Aldendifer's two-out single.
- Lopez had a double for the Trojans. Elizabeth Whitesides, Aldendifer and Julia Anderson each added a single. Whitesides had a walk.
- Enriquez hit two doubles and collected two RBIs for the Blue Hawks. Kubitschek added two singles. Allen had a single and two RBIs. Nash had a single and an RBI.
- DiSU outhit DaSU 9-4 in the game. The Blue Hawks left seven runners on base compared to the Trojans four runners left on base.
- Lopez (L, 8-11) pitched a complete game for Dakota State, recording the defeat. She allowed six runs (three unearned) on nine hits and recorded five strikeouts.
- Allen (W, 10-4) tossed a complete game victory for Dickinson State. She yielded the Trojans to four hits and registered six strikeouts.
Game 2: Dickinson State (N.D.) 9, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL/5 innings
- Dakota State was limited to two hits in the second game of the tripleheader as Dickinson State cruised to a 9-0 victory in five innings.
- The Trojans threatened to score in the opening inning but left runners on third an second bases.
- Allen hit a two-out solo home run in the bottom first frame, giving Dickinson State a 1-0 lead.
- The Blue Hawks plated three runs in the bottom third inning as their lead grew to 4-0.
- DaSU was unable to convert their scoring chances after Vinitzia Blanco's lead-off double in the top fourth.
- Dickinson State exploded for five runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning to balloon their lead to 9-0, capped by Dallis Mitchell's RBI single.
- The Trojans left two runners on base when the game ended, securing the victory for the Blue Hawks.
- Blanco led Dakota State with a double. Lopez added a single. Sarah Torres reached on base by a walk three times.
- Allen was 2-of-3 at the plate with a home run, single and drove in three runs for Dickinson State. Mitchell added two singles and two RBIs. Rhea Paiva and Emilie Sickler each added a single.
- DaSU left seven runners on base compared to DiSU two runners left on base. The Blue Hawks tallied seven hits in the game.
- Aldendifer (L, 0-4) recorded the setback after tossing three innings for the Trojans. She gave up four runs on four hits. Xotchil Lopez worked the fourth inning in relief, giving up five runs (one unearned) on three hits.
- Madeline Peralta (W, 7-1) earned the victory after pitching a complete game for the Blue Hawks. She limited the Trojans to two hits in the game.
