PERU, Neb. – Dakota State (S.D.) powered with a season-high .301 hitting percentage, routing York (Neb.) to kick off the second day of the Bobcat Classic Saturday at Al Wheeler Activity Center. The tournament was hosted by Peru State (Neb.).
The Trojans held the Panthers to a negative .029 hitting efficiency in the match. DSU won their third straight match to raise their overall record to 5-2. York, a member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), fell to 4-9 overall record.
DSU wraps up the tournament with a match against host-team Peru State (Neb.) at 1 p.m.
Dakota State (S.D.) 3, York (Neb.) 0 – FINAL (25-8, 25-12, 25-17)
- After York grabbed the first lead of the first set at 1-0, Dakota State roared with a 12-1 scoring tear to grab a 12-2 lead capped by Madalyn Groft's kill.
- A block by Vanessa Schroeder gave DSU an 18-3 lead and ever trailed in the match. The Trojans secured the first set by the score of 25-8, thanks to their impressive .481 hitting percentage (15 kills with 2 errors in 27 attempts). The Panthers were held to minus .133 hitting efficiency (4 kills with 8 errors in 30 swings).
- Dakota State raced to a 6-0 lead in the second set after a block assist by Hannah Viet and Maddie Polzin. The Panthers answered by scoring the next four points to cut DSU's lead to 6-4.
- The Trojans went on a 13-5 scoring run to earn the first double dight lead of the second set at 19-9, capped by a block assist by Viet and Sydney Schell.
- Leading 19-12, Dakota State shut down York 6-0 to secure a 25-12 set two victory. A kill by Nicole Sarringar gave the Trojans a 2-0 match lead.
- DSU outhit YC 12-3 in the second set.
- Knotted at 6-6 in the third set, Dakota State went on a 4-0 scoring tear to gain a 10-6 lead. The Panthers could get no closer than three points at 16-13.
- DSU closed the third set with a 9-4 run, capped by Viet's kill to secure a 25-17 victory and 3-0 match win. The Trojans smashed 17 kills in the third set compared to the Panthers nine kills.
- Schell fueled Dakota State's offense attack with 15 kills and hit .444. She also had a double-double with 10 digs. Viet added 11 kills and recorded a hitting percentage of .429. She had two blocks.
- Polzin recorded six kills and collected 10 digs for DSU. M. Groft produced 19 set assists. Sarringar added a double-double of 16 assists and 11 digs.
- Peyton Groft collected a match-high 22 digs and registered two service aces for the Trojans.
- Danielle Armendartiz had six kills for York. Alexandria Garcia tailed 14 digs. Darby Wright posted a double-double of 11 set assists and 10 digs.
- Dakota State smashed 44 kills in the match and committed 13 attack errors in 103 swings. York recorded 16 kills with 19 errors in 105 attempts. The Trojans had five blocks compared to the Panthers one block.
