MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) outgained Presentation (S.D.) in total offensive yards by 200 yards but suffered three interceptions as the Saints held off the Trojans 21-19 in a windy North Star Athletic Association football contest at Trojan Field. PC stopped DSU's comeback effort on a fourth-and-four on Saints' 27-yard line, turning the ball on downs with 49 seconds left.
Dakota State fell to 3-4 overall record and 1-2 NSAA conference record. Presentation improved to 2-5 overall record and evened their conference record to 1-1.
FIRST QUARTER
- Dakota State kicked off the game with 10 straight rushing plays, producing three first-downs. The Trojans were unable to continue their first drive as Zach Brooks punted to PC's 19-yard line from PC's 35-yard line with eight minutes, forty-seven seconds on the clock.
- Presentation was held to 1 yard on their first drive of the game, forcing the Saints to punt.
- DSU started on their town 28-yard line with 7:38 on the clock, kicking off with a 12-yard rush by Brooks followed by Gavin Holland's 15-yard rush to PC's 30-yard line.
- DSU turned the ball on downs on PC's 22-yard line with 4:42 to go in the first period.
- Presentation did not convert a first down on the ensuing possession, as Luiz Ferreira recorded a 74-yard punt for a touchback with 3:28 to go.
After DSU was forced to punt on the following drive, the Saints scored the first points of the game. Daryl Coston rushed for a 48-yard touchdown with 47 seconds left to give PC its first lead of the game.- Ferreira converted the PAT extra-point kick to give Presentation a 7-0 lead with 47 seconds to go.
SECOND QUARTER
- DSU's Blake Duran intercepted PC Kaeden Frazier's pass at DSU's 49-yard line and returned it for 21 yards to PC's 30-yard line with 12:13 on the clock in the second quarter.
- Two plays later, Brooks connected to Cole Sylliaasen for 30-yard touchdown with 11:58 to go in the second. Noah Karwacki's PAT extra point kick was good as the Trojans knotted the game at 7-7.
- After holding the Saints to five yards on the next drive, Dakota State marched down the field to PC's 5-yard line with six plays for 51 yards.
- Presentation prevented the Trojans to score as Anthony Lawson intercepted Brooks' pass in the end zone and returned it for three yards to PC's 3-yard line with 6:18 on the clock.
The Saints used 11 plays for 27 yards in 3:34 on the ensuing possession and was forced to punt, despite a 27-yard punt by Ferreira to DSU's 43-yard line.- Facing a third-and-5 on DSU's 48-yard line, Cooper McDermott caught a 35-yard pass from Brooks to PC's 10-yard line.
- The Trojans had to settle for a 22-yard field goal by Karwacki to give DSU a 10-7 lead with 11 seconds left before halftime.
- Dakota State outgained Presentation 217-98 in total offensive yards in the first half. The Trojans held the ball for 20 minutes, 27 seconds compared to the Saints 9 minutes, 33 seconds.
THIRD QUARTER
- Both teams struggled to move the ball in the early going of the third quarter.
- With 4th-and-2 situation on PC's 35-yard line, the Saints faked a punt and attempted to convert a first down. However, the Saints committed an illegal forward pass (over the line of scrimmage) and resulted to a possession for the Trojans with 11:24 on the clock on PC's 32-yard line.
- The Trojans answered with seven plays for 24 yards and had to settle for a 25-yard field goal by Karwacki. DSU's lead grew to 13-7 with 7:42 left in the third quarter.
- Germaine Brown intercepted DSU's Brooks pass at DSU's 33-yard line and returned it for 24 yards to DSU's 9-yard line as the Saints regained possession with 5:14 left.
PC answered with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Frazier to Kevin Wright to tie the game at 13-13 with 4:42 to go in the third. Ferreira added the PAT extra-point kick as PC regained their lead at 14-13.- Dakota State moved the ball to Presentation's territory on the ensuing drive. The Trojans committed another interception as Isaiah Lawson caught the interception on PC's 19-yard line and returned to PC's 24-yard line with 3:15 to go in the third.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Dakota State was forced to punt to start the fourth quarter as the Saints started the drive on their own 20-yard line.
- Facing a third-and-10 situation on PC's 31-yard line, Frazier connected to Cameron Sheppard for a 65-yard reception to DSU's 4-yard line.
- Abdulahi Yusuf followed up with a 4-yard touchdown run to extend PC's lead to 20-13 with 11:21 remaining. Ferreira added the PAT extra-point kick to make it 21-13.
- After a pair of punts by both teams, Dakota State started their drive on DSU's 35-yard line with 6:12 left on the clock. Dakota State converted a fourth down situation, continuing their drive on their own 45-yard line.
- Brooks rushed for 15 yards, followed by another 13 yards to PC's 25-yard line. The Saints committed a personal foul penalty, moving the ball to PC's 15-yard line.
On the next play, Adin Jungers rushed for his first collegiate touchdown with a 15-yard run with 4:38 left. The 2-point PAT attempt fell short as the pass was dropped in the end zone as DSU trailed 21-19.- Presentation was forced to punt on the ensuing possession, thanks to Cody Brown's quarterback sack loss of 11 yards to PC's 22-yard line. DSU regained possession with 2:45 remaining in the game.
- The Trojans used eight plays for 35 yards in less than two minutes as they moved the ball to PC's 27-yard line. With fourth-and-4 situation, the Saints halted the Trojans on PC's 26-yard line as DSU turned the ball on downs with 49 seconds left.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Brooks finished the game with 152 passing yards with a touchdown for the Trojans. He also rushed 18 times for 114 yards. Jungers added 18 passing yards and 15 rushing yards with a touchdown.
- Holland ran the ball 22 times for 94 yards for Dakota State. Isaak Swartout had 19 rushing yards.
- Sylliaasen added two receptions for 36 yards and a touchdown. McDermott had a 35-yard reception.
- Karwacki registered five punts for 36.0 yards per punt for Dakota State. His two punts landed inside the 20-yard line. He also added five kick-offs for 303 yards (60.6 yards per kick-off) with three touchbacks.
Duran had an interception and returned it for 21 yards for the Trojans. He finished the game with four tackles.- Gustavo Bonilla and Brown each led the Trojans' defense with eight tackles. Brown had a quarterback sack of 11 yards loss and three tackles-for-loss of 14 yards. Jeremiah 'JJ' Beck and Devonte Murphy each added seven tackles. Brooks Jansen had six tackles.
- Frazier recorded 154 passing yards and a touchdown for Presentation. Sheppard had three catches for 80 yards. Wright added five catches for 50 yards and a touchdown.
- Saint Coston rushed 14 times for 67 yards and a touchdown. Yusuf added a rushing touchdown.
- Ferreira had 10 punts for 364 yards (36.4 yards per punt). He added four kick-offs for 246 yards (61.5 yards per kickoff) with two touchbacks for PC.
- A. Lawson, Brown, and I. Lawson each registered an interception for Presentation.
- Treden DavisReed tallied a game-high 17 tackles for the Saints. Braxton Bates added 14 tackles and two tackles-for-loss. Sam Motzkus and Chandler Janik each had nine tackles.
TEAM COMPARISONS
- Dakota State racked up a season-high 414 offensive yards while holding Presentation to 214 total offensive yards. The Trojans outrushed the Saints 244-60. It was the second time this season that the Trojans rushed for 200-plus yards. DSU had 170 passing yards to PC 154 passing yards.
- Both teams converted 5-of-18 on third-down plays. The Trojans produced 22 first downs compared to the Saints 10 first downs.
- Dakota State had the time possession of 36 minutes, 29 seconds. Presentation held the ball for 23 minutes, 31 seconds.

Dakota State begins their 2-game road stretch as they travel to Mayville State (N.D.) for another North Star Athletic Association action next Saturday. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m. at Jerome Berg Field in Mayville, N.D.
Presentation returns home next Saturday as they host Iowa Wesleyan in the North Star action at 1 p.m.
