VALLEY CITY, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) played its third volleyball match in five nights, continuing their action on the road Friday evening at Graichen Gymnasium. Valley City State (N.D.) pulled away past DSU in four sets by the scores of 25-22, 14-25, 25-23, and 25-19, despite a season-high 40 digs from Peyton Groft where she is two digs away from breaking all-time digs record in DSU volleyball program history.
Dakota State, who extended their streak to eighth straight appearance on the NAIA Women's Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 national poll's receiving votes section, fell to 11-10 overall record and 2-2 NSAA conference record. VCSU improved their overall record to 8-8 and 3-1 record in the North Star contests.
The Trojans look to swing back in the winning column Saturday afternoon, visiting Dickinson State (N.D.) in another North Star Athletic Association match. First serve is set for 1 p.m. (Central Time)/12 p.m. (Mountain Time) at Scott Gymnasium in Dickinson, N.D.

- Dakota State and Valley City State battled back and forth with five ties and a lead no greater than three points by the Vikings.
- Leading 17-15, Danielle Hagler smashed back-to-back kills to put VCSU up 19-15 and prompted the Trojans to call a timeout.
- DSU could get no closer than two points on four different occasions in the opening set. The Vikings held off the Trojans by closing with a kill from Hagler for a 25-22 victory and 1-0 match lead.
- VCSU outhit DSU 16-11 in the first set.
- Down 5-4 in the second set, Dakota State sparked an 8-2 scoring run, including scoring four straight points. Madalyn Groft smashed a kill, assisted by Maddi Langerock, to give DSU a 12-7 lead.
- Dakota State never trailed for the rest of the second set, leading as many as 12 points at 24-12.
- Sydney Schell smashed a kill to close the second set at 25-14 as DSU evened the match at 1-1.
- The Trojans smashed 17 kills compared to Vikings eight kills. DSU hit .317 (4 errors in 41 swings) and held VCSU to .089 hitting percentage (4 errors in 45 attempts).
- Dakota State and Valley City State went through a closely tight third set, with the lead no greater than three points by VCSU.
- An attack error by the Trojans gave the Vikings a 19-15 lead in the third.
- Trailing 24-21, Dakota State saved two set point opportunities by the Vikings. The Trojans trimmed the Vikings' lead to 24-23, forcing to burn a timeout.
- Hagler closed the match with a kill to give Valley City State a 25-23 victory and regained a 2-1 match lead.
- Both teams tallied 15 kills in the third set. The Trojans committed eight attack errors in 51 attempts (.137 hitting percentage), while the Vikings hit .188 (6 errors in 48 swings).
- Valley City State opened the fourth set with four straight points for a 4-0 lead. Dakota State answered with five straight points, highlighted by back-to-back kills by M. Groft.
- Bailey Nelson hit back-to-back kills followed by a kill from Hagler extended VCSU's lead to 16-11 in the fourth.
- The Vikings pulled away by closing the fourth set with a block from Nelson and Morgan Nelson for a 25-19 victory and secured the match at 3-1.
- Dakota State outhit Valley City State 17-14 in the fourth set. The Trojans hit .110 with nine attack errors in 73 attempts compared to the Vikings .174 hitting efficiency (2 errors in 69 attempts).
- Schell paced the Trojans with a double-double of 22 kills and 22 digs. She also had two blocks. M. Groft posted triple-double for the second straight match (fourth time this season) with 36 set assists, 13 digs, and 11 kills.
- Hannah Viet had a career-high 17 kills and hit .317 for Dakota State. Langerock contributed a double-double of 17 set assists and 11 digs. Riley Grandpre had five kills and five digs. Vanessa Schroeder tallied three blocks.
- P. Groft collected match- and season-highs 40 digs (seventh-most digs in a single match in the record book) for the Trojans. She is currently at 2,085 career digs, trailing by one dig for tying the all-time digs record of 2,086 digs set by Sonja Kamrud from 1996-99. VonnaGail Schlechter recorded 14 digs.
- Valley City State was led by Nelson with 16 kills, nine digs, and four blocks. Hagler added 14 kills, seven digs, and six blocks. Emma Lucas had nine kills.
- Sadie Hansen registered a double-double of 46 set assists and 19 digs for VCSU. JayCee Richter had 29 digs. Delani Clarke added 19 digs, while Lexi Leroux had 11 digs.
- Dakota State outhit Valley City State 60-53 in the match. Both teams hit .159 in the match. The Trojans committed 28 attack errors in 201 attempts compared to the Vikings 20 attack errors in 207 swings.
- The Trojans racked up over 100 digs for the second straight match, recording 115 digs. The Vikings had 103 digs in the match.
- VCSU accumulated 18 block assists (9 team blocks), while DSU had six block assists (3 team blocks).
