Trojan men’s basketball remains undefeated at home, rolls past Pilots

Dakota State (S.D.) rolled to a 93-53 home victory over Providence (Manitoba)

MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) kicked off the month of November by pouring in 56 points in the first twenty minutes Friday evening, rolling to a 93-53 men's basketball home victory over Providence (Manitoba) to remain undefeated at DSU Fieldhouse this season.  It was the second straight home game with the Trojans scored over 55 points in the first half.

Dakota State improved to 3-1 overall record on the season.  Providence was playing an exhibition contest.

Both teams play again on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.  The Trojan men's basketball team will be honoring Ken Prorok and the law enforcement at approximately five minutes prior to tip-off.

Dakota State (S.D.) 93, Providence (Manitoba) 53 – FINAL

Dakota State kicked off the game by making two straight baskets from Colby Dillenbeck and Taine Mitchell for a 4-0 lead with eighteen minutes and forty-eight seconds on the clock.  The Trojans never trailed for the rest of the game.

The Pilots could get no closer than two points at 4-2 after a basket from Emmanuel Oleko with 17:05 on the clock in the first half.

DSU went on a 12-0 scoring outburst, thanks to a pair of 3-pointers from Brayden Pankonen and capped with back-to-back baskets from Tyler Beckwith for a 16-2 lead with less than 15 minutes to go in the first.

Dakota State ballooned their lead to 56-19 by halftime, thanks to their blazing 60.5 percent shooting from the field (23-of-38 field goals).  The Pilots were held to 25 percent from the field (6-of-24 field goals) in the first twenty minutes. 

DSU outscored Providence 37-34 in the second half. 

Colby Dillenbeck led the Trojans with a game-high 21 points on his 8-of-10 field goals and 5-of-6 free- hrows.  He also had four rebounds and a block.  Lane Tietz scored a season-high 18 points off the bench on his 8-of-15 field goals.  He also dished out four assists.  Ethan Slaathaug added nine points and five rebounds.  Pankonen, Trelin Barnett, Rysley Borman, and Aiden Jensen each scored six points.

Pankonen grabbed six rebounds, dished out two assists, and stole the ball twice for DSU.  Calvin Payne added two steals.  Barnett stole the ball four times and recorded four assists.  Beckwith had four rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.  Nolan Segner had five rebounds and three assists.

Oleko posted a double-double of 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for Providence.  Riley Paul and Danny Desmarais each added eight points. 

Dakota State shot 48.7 percent overall from the field (38-of-78 field goals) compared to Providence 34.5 percent (20-of-58 field goals).  DSU dished out 29 assists in the game.

The Trojans outrebounded the Pilots 52-31.  Dakota State outscored Providence 16-4 in second chance points.

DSU scored 58 bench points to Providence 13 points.
