SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – Dakota State (S.D.) was unable to score a run in the final game with rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) in the first American State Bank Sports Complex dome tournament Saturday evening, hosted by Dordt (Iowa).  The Tigers used a quick start and held off the Trojans by the score of 5-0.
Dakota State fell to 0-4 overall record. Dakota Wesleyan is 5-6 overall record.Â
The Trojans return to Sioux Center for their second ASB Sports Complex tournament with another four-game slate. DSU opens the tournament against Morningside (Iowa) on Friday at 2 p.m., followed by the host-team Dordt at 6 p.m. Next Saturday (Feb. 24), Dakota State faces No. 15 ranked Northwestern (Iowa) at 2 p.m. and College of Saint Mary (Neb.) at 4 p.m.

Dakota Wesleyan produced four straight singles in the top first inning, producing two runs. The Tigers collected back-to-back RBI singles from Alyssa Burke and Nora Nelson for 2-0 DWU lead. The Trojans' defense ended the top first inning with a tag out at third base on the same play when Nelson hit an RBI single.
DWU extended their lead to 3-0 in the top fourth inning when Jordyn Blogg hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score Alyssa Burke, who led off with a single, swiped to second base, and advanced to third after Nelson's fly out.
Dakota State left two runners on base in the bottom fifth inning, despite earning back-to-back singles from
Michelle Evdos and
Alexus Foster.
Nelson hit a 2-run home run in the top sixth inning as Dakota Wesleyan's lead grew to 5-0.
The Trojans could not score in the final inning, securing the victory for the Tigers.
DWU outhit DSU 9-6 in the game.Â

Nelson packed the Tigers with a home run, single, and three RBIs. McKinnely Mull, Jaden Warner, and Burke each added two hits. McKenna Thompson had a single.
Maycee Bricker (L, 0-2) took the defeat in the pitching circle for Dakota State. She allowed five runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.Â
Analicia Burgos tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, yielding the Tigers to one hit.
Keristyn Krcil (W, 3-4) pitched a complete game victory for Dakota Wesleyan. She gave up six hits and recorded three strikeouts.
