(RV) Trojans sweep season series with Mystics in Frontier Conference volleyball

Dakota State (S.D.) rolls past Bismarck State (N.D.) in three straight sets at DSU Fieldhouse

MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) volleyball made quick work of visiting Bismarck State (N.D.) on Friday night, sweeping the Mystics 25-13, 25-7, and 25-20 at DSU Fieldhouse in Frontier Conference action.  The Trojans completed their season series sweep of the Mystics.

The Trojans (12-6 overall, 8-5 Frontier) produced one of their most efficient hitting performances of the season, finishing with 48 kills on a .358 attack percentage. They hit .289 in the opening frame, a sizzling .536 in the second, and closed at .302 in the third.

Dakota State controlled the net from start to finish. Sophomore Macey Wathen led the way with 11 kills on a nearly flawless .688 hitting rate and added a block assist. Halle Bruflat followed with 12 kills on .400 hitting and two block assists, while Tristyn Maras contributed 10 kills and three blocks. Sophie Tuttle chipped in eight kills and two blocks as four Trojans reached at least eight kills.

Setter Maddi Langerock ran the offense efficiently with 27 assists and nine digs, while Gabi Borresen added 12 assists off the bench.

Defensively, Kate VanRooyan anchored the back row with 16 digs and one assist. Dakota State collected 52 digs in the sweep and held Bismarck State to .089 hitting (25 kills, 16 errors in 101 attempts). At the net, Lauryn Kloth was dominant with six block assists, helping DSU tally seven total team blocks.

The Trojans also served four aces, including one each from Wathen, Langerock, Witzel, and Weber, while limiting service errors to four.

Set breakdown
  • Set 1: DSU turned an early 4-4 tie into a commanding 16-4 run fueled by kills from Wathen and Bruflat, cruising 25-13.
  • Set 2: The Trojans overwhelmed Bismarck State 25-7, hitting over .530 with balanced scoring from Maras, Tuttle, and Bruflat.
  • Set 3: Bismarck State briefly led early, but DSU's depth closed it out behind Bruflat and Maras for a 25-20 finish.
The Mystics (3-14, 1-11 Frontier) were led by Chelsa Krom and Reese Duchsherer with six kills each. Krom hit .400 and added two aces, while Duchsherer contributed nine digs. Setter Delaney Deschamp tallied 12 assists, and Piper Harris had eight digs.
