SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The Dakota State (S.D.) University men's cross-country team continued its steady improvement this fall, turning in a season-best team performance Saturday morning at the Dordt's (Iowa) Holiday Inn Express Classic. There were two 8K races – Gold Division and Black Division.
The Trojans placed 10th out of 16 teams in the men's 8K Gold Division field, which featured a competitive mix of NCAA Division I, Division II, and nationally ranked NAIA programs. DSU edged NCAA Division II University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) by two points.
Dakota State still produced its fastest 8K team time of the season (2:11:35). The Trojans' top five runners finished within 54 seconds.
NCAA Division II Augustana (S.D.) won the men's team title with 30 points, edging by NCAA Division I South Dakota State with 40 points. No. 15 ranked Doane (Neb.) was third with 107 points, followed by No. 25 ranked Dordt fourth with 120 points.
Nine of the team's top ten runners recorded personal bests, and the group collectively ran three minutes faster than last week's Briar Cliff (Iowa) Open and nearly five minutes faster than their last race on the Dordt course in September.
