MADISON, S.D. – (RV) Dakota State battled late but could not slow the balanced attack and defensive pressure of NAIA's top-ranked Providence (Mont.) Friday evening at the DSU Fieldhouse. The Frontier Conference-leading Argos earned a 3-0 sweep over the Trojans by scores of 25-15, 25-14, 25-22.
Providence hit .250 overall in the match while holding the Trojans to .085 attacking.
The Argos also recorded 10.0 team blocks compared to DSU's 4.0 blocks.
Dakota State (14-11, 10-9 Frontier) found momentum in the third set, building multiple leads behind improved efficiency at the net and strong defensive coverage. The Trojans led 11-6 midway through the final frame before the nation's No. 1-ranked squad rallied late to close out the match.
TROJAN LEADERS
- Macey Wathen led DSU with nine kills, hitting .348 while adding three digs and two block assists.
- Halle Bruflat followed with seven kills and a block assist.
- Sophie Tuttle also added seven kills and a block assist.
- Maddi Langerock paced the offense with 27 assists and collected 12 digs for a double-double.
- Kate VanRooyan anchored the back row with a team-high 15 digs, while Sydney Wathen added 12 digs.
Dakota State posted 64 digs as a team in the match, including three players in double figures.
ARGOS LEADERS
Providence (26-1, 19-0 Frontier) saw four players register 8 or more kills, led by Bella Green with 10 kills. Sadie Giles (8 kills, 10 digs) and Martyna Fiedler (8 kills) balanced the offense, while Kyra Saiers recorded 25 digs to pace the defensive effort.
Bella Thompson totaled 34 assists and added 12 digs for UP. She added five blocks.
