MADISON, S.D. – (RV) Dakota State used a dominant defensive effort at the net and a balanced offensive attack to defeat (RV) Montana State-Northern in Frontier Conference volleyball play Saturday afternoon at the DSU Fieldhouse, earning a 3-1 victory by set scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-9 and 25-16.
The Trojans improved to 15-11 overall and 11-9 record in Frontier action, while the Skylights fell to 15-11 and 13-7 record in league play.
Dakota State finished their home schedule with an impressive 9-3 record, including 9-2 record in the Frontier Conference play. It was the first time since the 2011-12 season with nine home victories at DSU Fieldhouse.
The Trojan volleyball team honored their two seniors prior to the match in their home finale –
Maddi Langerock and
Leilani Weber.
Match Summary
After splitting the first two tight sets, Dakota State seized full control in the third and fourth frames. DSU hit .355 in the third set and .317 in the fourth, while holding MSU-Northern to .040 hitting for the match.
When MSU-Northern evened the match with a 25-23 second set win, DSU responded with a 13–2 blitz to open the third set on its way to a 25-9 runaway, swinging momentum fully to the Trojans.
The Trojans' block proved crucial, recording 10.5 total blocks.
Dakota State Highlights
- Tristyn Maras led all attackers with 18 kills, hitting .265 and adding four block assists.
- Macey Wathen added 10 kills and seven block assists.
- Sophie Tuttle tallied 10 kills, including several key late-set swings, along with an ace.
- Maddi Langerock orchestrated the offense with 43 assists and added 15 digs for a double-double. Leilani Weber added two digs and three successful serve attempts in her home finale.
- Kate VanRooyan anchored the back row with 22 digs, pacing the DSU defense.
- Halle Bruflat (6 block assists – season high) and Macey Wathen each contributed heavily at the net as DSU posted 19 block assists in the match.
MSU-Northern Highlights
- Macee Selman led the Skylights with 13 kills, adding 17 assists and 18 digs for a triple-double.
- Josie Hasler added 8 kills and 12 digs, while libero Baily Egan collected 24 digs to pace MSUN's defense.

Dakota State heads to their final regular season week next week, playing a pair of matches in North Dakota. The Trojans make their first stop at Mayville State (N.D.) on Wednesday evening. The junior varsity match is set for 4 p.m., followed by varsity match at 6 p.m. at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.
